Anyone hired an electric breastpump?

Has anyone rented an electric breastpump before? I had a lot of trouble breastfeeding last time around and want to make it as easy as possible with my second baby (due 22 May). If anyone has, could you recommend one? Thank you.

I went back to work when my DD was 6months old. Initially I was using a hand-pump(Avent).I switched to a Medela Mini Electric and found this quicker in comparison. Try Expressions hire
I used to pump first thing in the morning, then each evening. You can freeze lots of milk in advance to have stock before going to work.

I hired the ameda one - you can get it through the NCT or direct from ameda - they have a web site. I think it was about £30 for the first months, and £20 after that. Although by the time you ahve spent that much you can pick them up second hand form ebay for about that.

Certainly I found double pumping with an electric pump much better than using the avent (which is fine for small amounts, but gave me rsi when I used it a lot).

You need MotherInferior. She has tested every breast pump on the market, and is an expert. (it's her hobby)

I used the Ameda double pump and it did the job really well. They deliver next day too so very convenient.

I used a medela pump and found it really easy to use and effective (felt a bit like a cow being milked, but it was quick).

Like gingerbear, I too started off by using the avent handpump, but later switched to the Medela Mini electric Plus (double pump!)It really is a godsend! With the avent pump, I was only getting abt 2 oz in 20 minuted, with the medela double pump I now get about 6 oz in 10 minutes!!i kid you not...And I really have a problem letting down with pumps, the milk just doesnt seem to want to come out, but with the medela one, it's not too bad! I went back to work just a week ago, dd is about 2 months old..I was initially really worried about how I would be able to pull off working and breastfeeding at the same time esp since I hadn't managed to build up a reasonable stockpile of milk b4 resuming work but with the medela pump, that's just not a problem. I can express about 6 bottles for dd to use the next day under 24 hours with medela while I could barely even get one bottle a day with the avent handpump...even dh was impressed!!he'd originally expressed some scepticism when I wanted to get the 2nd pump and questioned the extra expenditure!!!

Now I pump first thing in the morning around 5am, when your breasts are most engorged, then during my lunchtime break, and then later in the evening when I get home. Occasionally I get an extra session sometime around midnight,if I'm not zonked out by then!

But it really does make you feel like a cow being milked...;-)

moooo..

Another vote for the Ameda, you can hire or purchase from here . I originally hired mine from here but it was quite large and noisy (and stunk of smoke! (the box and bits it came with)). The Ameda one is really compact and quiet and has an adjustment for both speed and strength of suction so you can get it just right. HTH

Sorry, forgot to add that when looking at the Ameda link it was the small white double-pump on the right hand side of the picture that I have. Very discreet too and hides nicely under my coffee table in the lounge!

Thank you, Blu. How did I miss this thread??? I tested 11 pumps recently. For work, I should point out.

The hire model is a bit more effective than the Lactaline one that you buy; it really gets going like a steam engine (fabby lever pumping motion to watch). One warning - be cautious about buying second-hand - there's a possibility that milk may have got into the tubes and made them non-sterile (info from Pupuce who warns against buying second hand).

I now have a Lactaline and really like it. Lots more than the Medela double-pump, personally. And if you are so inclined you can connect it up in your car, too
