Hi I posted this on products but no one has said anything so thought I'd try here as people night check it more regularly. Has anyone tried using the avent niplette or similar? Have inverted nipple on one side and cause no end of hastle with BF. So much so it contributed to giving up. Wondered if it was worth investing in before having any more tiny people as would like to BF any further tiddlers!

Hi ali, is that similar to nipple shields ? I had similar problem bf and tried that but didn't really work for me I'm afraid. I may still have an unused box somewhere if you want to try them without investing anything.

No, the ipple shield is for when you have sore nipples. THo was recommended to use by HV so DD had somethng to latch onto. This was ok but could never get a good seal with breast so most of it ran down my body and she got full of wind. It's supposed to actually correct the problem perminantly but is best to use before pregnant as nipples beome v sensitive then

Sorry, just read your message again & it actually went into my brain this time. sorry I can't help, hope you find something that works!

There have been a few threads on this. One here .

Cheers. Read the post about how expressing can help but it didn't work for me. IT just pulled it into an odd shape [hmmm] Tried ice and tried breastfeeding but she always refused that side unless in rugby ball position which got harderand hardre as she got bigger. May have a try with them because it's not going to get better by itself! Thanks for the link and the advice.

I'd give it a go. You've got nothing to lose

If it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine successfully nursed for almost two years, but he only took one side the entire time.

alibobble · 23/09/2006 15:57

Is that possible? I've always been confused. Does the stimulation of feeding stimulate milk in both sides or just that one side? If you fed on just one side then what happens to the other? Does it get engorged or what? I suppose you could end up lob sided but I wouldn't realy care about that!

I used to work for the Consultant Plastic Surgeon who invented The Niplette (he was actually developing it while I was working for him). Lovely man. He did loads of trials and the results were very good.

jabberwocky · 24/09/2006 02:45

She may have gotten engorged initially, but ultimately the milk dried up on that one side. She was lopsided until she stopped bfing entirely but it didn't affect her success at lasting 2 years at it.

alibobble · 24/09/2006 16:41

wow I never knew that. I thought that wasn't possible so didn't try it. Will def bear in mind for the future!
