Weaning off boob - humungous & sore boobs

Can you help?

I've weaned my 11 month old during the day so she can spend a day at nursery without being distraught, and she's been fine with this for almost two weeks. We've now dropped night time feeds as well, and she's sleeping through for the first time. Hooray!

I've kept the evening feed before bed as I can do this when I go back to work and I didn't want to cut her off completely as we've both had a really great feeding relationship. But my boobs are huge, and sore. It's been 5 days, the first two days they were fine and had almost gone back to normal size but the last three by the time we've got to 7pm they're humungous and not exactly painful but pretty uncomfortable. I'm letting her feed on both sides in the evening just to even things out a bit or I'd look pretty odd!

Can I expect things to get better? Or is keeping this last feed a bad idea? Should I only feed on one side?

I thought it was all fine after a good first two days but they seem to have ballooned again. Anyone know what's going on or anything I could do to make things better? My boobs and I would be very grateful.

I would expect things to get better fairly quickly. It's fine to keep the last feed, however many sides you choose. Your boobs will soon get the hang of what you need from them now. In the meantime if you are very full and uncomfortable, you could hand express minimal amounts just for comfort.

Hi hope you're sorted by now. If not it sounds like weaning went a bit too fast for your boobs hence the engorgement. When this happens it can be easiest to take a step back and feed a little more often again until it settles down, or you can express to comfort whenever you feel engorged. It's important to keep on top of it or you could be at risk of mastitis. Have a look at this link breastfeeding.support/breasts-full-and-tender/

It took my boobs 8-9 days to settle down. I was taking sage tea 6 times a day, vitamin b12 tablets, sudafed and placing green cabbage leaves. Have you tried any of above?
