Travelling abroad with breastmilk

Hi ladies, I need help please! We're going away to Europe in a few weeks and I'm confused about transporting milk there. I have giant boobs and am not comfortable feeding in public at all so always pump and give a bottle. The problem is that it now takes so long to pump a bottle I'd have to do it before we went away. Has anyone ever travelled with frozen milk? Just can't get my head around it! I won't be able to pump enough near the time that can stay fresh so must freeze. Hope this all made sense!

How will you be travelling Jenna? And how old is your baby?

JennaRainbow · 07/08/2014 00:40

Sorry I thought I posted on the breastfeeding forum, not sure how to move it! My baby will be nearly 10 months then and we're flying.

At the moment she's on 4 feeds a day and 3 meals. At 10 months do you think I'll be feeding any less?

Do you express for all feeds or just those that would happen in public?

Pinotgrigioplease · 07/08/2014 01:15

If it's only a few weeks away I can't imagine that much will change.

The difficulty I would see would be transporting it. How are you travelling? If it's by plane could you contact the airline for advice?

I can sympathise with the expressing, the older my DS was the harder I found it. For this reason I switched to daytime formula when he was 10months & I returned to work & kept BF morning & evening and a lot during the night! but I appreciate that this doesn't suit everyone.

If you want this moved report your post & ask MN to move it in the comments.

Thank you both for your replies.

I only express when I'll need to feed her in public. I used to get a full feed in 30 minutes, now it takes 3 sessions to do the same.

I called the airline and they were absolutely useless!

I'm not sure what to suggest. Did you ask for this to be moved? You might get more suggestions in the bf topic right enough.

Could you try one of those cover-up things and just feed behind that? I imagine transporting the milk could be a bit stressful and what about delays and things that might mean the milk doesn't stay cool enough? I would be experimenting with ways to feed that make you feel less uncomfortable. I have big boobs too and find it hard to feed very discreetly but I find that no one is ever really watching and people don't tend to notice what you're doing as much as you think they will.
