Dress size when BF

MrsGiraffe12 · 30/07/2014 22:24

So, prior to pregnancy I was a size 14/16, usually a 14 on top, 16 on bottom. I can still wear the same sizes at 34 weeks pregnant, just in maternity clothes.

I know every lady is different, but my question is generally, will I need a bigger top size / dress size when BF? Like a 16 instead of a 14? Or do most ladies manage ok with their old size when their milk comes in?

Thanks x

Depends on how loose and stretchy an item of clothing is. I'm back to my pre pregnancy weight 2 months after giving birth and my old clothes fit everywhere but the bust. Tighter dresses I can't wear anymore as a result, but loose stretchy ones fit fine.

Need to update my wardrobe in general though as I need more things that can be easily pulled down or up for nursing, it's surprising how many tops and dresses are unsuitable for it.

Hmmm. I've ordered a 3 pack of nursing vests in a 14 and in a 16. The 14 are fine now and the 16 are a bit loose so can't decide whether to keep the 16 and hope my boobs bulk out enough to full them (34 weeks now).

Most of my wardrobe will need updating too as I wear mainly dresses. Will need to invest in lots of long tops/tunic as leggings I think x

Bit hard to predict, as not everyone's boobs get much bigger when milk comes in, and weight gain also a factor. But for me they did, dramatically so. 36A pre-preg, 36C during preg, bursting out of 40D while bf! Eventually went back to 36B after I stopped feeding dd1, currently bf dd2 so have huge norks again.

So all my old button up tops/dresses with zips in top half are currently out of action. Stretchy/floaty is your friend - especially as pp said if you can easily lift up/down to feed.

It's total chance what your boobs will do. Some do stay pretty much the same. I like my vests looser because then they don't outline my post partum paunch . I find cowl necks, jersey fabric and Henley tops v handy, also racer back vests coz I can pull them sideways. I don't like pulling material up to feed though

Yeah, seems to vary wildly from person to person. In my case I got a serious visit from the boob fairy first time round (a B to a DD) so none of my pre-first-pregnancy tops fitted me.

Ladies, it sounds as though you all need a bra intervention. Head on over to Style to see what I mean.
