Foods to avoid when breastfeeding a newborn

Hi, our dd is now 12 days old and has had colic a few evenings between 6 pm and 12 pm. I had not paid much attention to what I was eating but I think I should now... Does anybody know what foods I should be avoiding or where I could find a list?
Thank you.

There are previous threads on this. I'll try to link some.

I don't know if it is mentioned on earlier threads but I had a shocking experience after a green salad. I didn't believe my mum when she told me I should avoid lettuce.

I avoided all commonly know wind producers. Beans, Peas, Cabbage, Onions, Garlic etc.

arabella2 - I wouldn't try and avoid anything at this stage TBH. Most babies are cloicky in the evenings - colicynth granules for the baby can be really good. Tring to eliminate food from your diet can make breastfeeding a chore. Try breastfeeding from one breast at a time and see if that helps. By that I mean feeding until they have had enough, winding and offering same breast again. Baby then gets more hind milk and can be more settled.

I avoided nothing. I am certain my ds's colic wasn't related to my diet and it was the same whatever I'd eaten. He was a frenzied evening feeder though and I think Mears' tip sounds good.

I was about to start a new thread and then found this ...
Need a bit of advice if anyone is about ...
I haven't avoided any foods really since DD was born ... and so far she has been fine (8 and a hlf weeks now) ...
Today, however, she has been really sicky, hiccuppy, burpy and farty (sounds like 4 of the 7 dwarfs )
Her poos have been very green, like she has had spinach for dinner and she has a really sore bottom ... bright red and angry looking.
She obviously hasn't been too happy either but is bearing up (must be 'cos she is a girl )

Anyway ... could it be something I ate? Last night I had this Weight Watchers Beef Teriaki microwave dinner ... which was full of red peppers ... (and wasn't particularly nice either!) I haven't eaten anything like that since she was born so I was wondering ?????

Or has she been feeding a lot? You can get green poos when babes are feeding frequently and not settling very well. Feeding from one breast at a time can help that to prevent over consumption of foremilk which can cause green frothy poos.

In the first few weeks I avoided anything and everything that even looked like it might cause me trouble - the upshot of that was I got veeeerrry hungry. By the 4th week I was eating everything including mild curries, cauliflower, citrus, the odd beer & glass of wine etc etc and little man didn't skip a beat. All babes different though. Try any foods you are worried about and just see what the result is. They will (I guess) eventually get used to the problem foods as well.

Thanks. My dd has had green poos as well Mears, so that foremilk thing is probably true for her as well. She does guzzle in the evenings too. Are the colicynth granules homoeopathic and do you know where I can get them (chemist?). Also, what about cranial osteopathy - some friends of mine recommended that for colic... do you agree?

Yes they are homeopathic but you can get them from a lot of chemists in my area anyway.

I avoided nothing(except peanuts just in case) when b/f ds and he's a dream to wean now. just a theory! girls, as my hv put it, you were a good girl for ten months don't deny yourself now.
