Basically the title ... Have heard something about the chemicals in cabbage stopping milk production; has anyone done this successfully? Does anyone have any other hints for stopping milk production?

I think it helps with the discomfort of engorgement.

yes it does work I'm not sure about milk production but it definitley takes the swelling and pain out- wash the green cabbage- and it has to be green not white and put small bundles in the fridge wrapped in clingfilm and then place them down your nursing bra and you'll feel much better

I used it to ease the pain of engorgement and it worked for me. It didn't stop milk production. I don't know what would stop milk production. Although thinking about it I think that Agnus Castus reduces production of prolactin which is the hormone needed for producing milk. Would have to check on that though. There may be some other herbs that would do it, too.

Well I've just looked that up and it seems some sites say that Agnus Castus promotes milk production. So just ignore what I said about that.
Also came across one that suggests using cabbage leaves more that 2 or 3 times a day might reduce supply. So now I'm more confused than ever . Sorry to be of no help. Hope someone else comes along with more info for you.

Marlks, are you wanting to stop or just reduce milk production? How old is your baby?

(cabbage is normally used as a way of relieving engorgement - don't think it could actually affect the amount of milk produced)

I used cold white cabbage leaves pulled off in the full rounded shape and put into my bra. It worked in about two days, although the fact that I stopped bf was obviously main factor. Midwives also gave me them.

Thanks everyone - I really appreciate your input.

Had been using cabbage leaves and my (& poor DH's) problem was that they smell badly; just wanted to be sure they were working. It's been two days and have stopped leaking so am well on my way (I hope). Tiktok, wanting milk production in its entirely to stop as soon as possible.
