bottle feeding struggles

Hi everyone, dd is 16 weeks old and has been bottle fed since birth. Shes such a difficult feed and we are getting to the point of dreading each feed, now I dont want to leave the house knowing that a feed in public will be so stressful. She feeds on demand and can take an hour to finish.she takes maybe 50 ml quite well then starts to force the teat out of her mouth with her tongue,so we take bottle away then dd screams as she is stll hungry and carries on making screamy noises the whole time she drinks. She is very hard to wind, infacol doesnt really help but she isa bit worse when we stop. Spits out gripewater, dentinox made her refuse the bottle completely. She does this difficult feed to who ever feeds her and me and DP hold her very differently. Tried different bottles and teats and doing it in different rooms so she doesnt get distracted. Nothing has helped. Any other hints would be greatly received! Shes gaining weight so HV not concerned. Keep hoping she will grow out of it but hasnt happened yet. Thanks

I bottle fed both mine from a couple of weeks with no problems, so I have no experience of this, but what you've just described is often put down to tongue tie on here.

DS2 was exactly like this. The screaming, spitting out the bottle and the good weight gain. It was silent reflux. We worked our way through gaviscon, then domperidone (both useless) then finally ranitidine. A magic wand. Our very clued up gp sorted us out, but you might needs a paeds referral. Tbh it improved massively when he was weaned at 6 months, and we stopped the meds soon after that.

Thank you, do you think reflux would make her want to feed constantly? If we do venture out she sleeps in car and I can go 3 or 4 hrs between feeds but if I stay home and shes not distracted then she just wants to eat every hour or two. Its exhausting when every feed takes an hour.

I was told milk can soothe reflux so sometimes they want milk frequently because it makes them feel better. Although my 16wk old does exactly the same re feeding more often at home and although v sicky I don't think he has reflux as never seems uncomfortable - think just gets distracted out and about.

I would say reflux or tongue tie. My DS has reflux and would want to feed constantly before he started medication.

yes, silent reflux in particular (i.e. without actual vomiting) can make them drink a lot. It's common to get rapid weight gain, and therefore not much support. DS2 put on nearly a pound in his 3rd week. Bit crazy as he started the week just over 5 and a half pounds, and finished it at 6 and a half.
