Bottle feeding through the night - questions

I am bottle feeding my newborn who wakes a few times through the night wanting to feed. Trouble s thati if I make up a bottle with powder formula milk it should be used within 2 hours but then that means inevitably that I am up at all hours making fresh bottles. What do you all do, is this just how it is or am I missing a trick? If it were me I would be tempted to but the pre-made ready to go formula for the nights but DP is against the cost of this as opposed to formula.

I'd tell your husband that when he gets up and starts making the fresh bottles at silly hours of the morning and then sitting up doing the feeds, then he can pass comment Smile

For the sake of the extra cost I'd definitely use pre-made formula during the night but still give the powdered formula through the day to make sure the costs aren't too excessive. How much volume do the pre-made cartons (as opposed to the pre-made bottles) hold? Could one carton last you the night?

You will get other people on here give you advice about how they don't make up fresh feeds as they are needed and instead make 24 hours worth in one go so - see what advice they can offer.

There are probably lots of options available to you to ensure night time feeding is a bit easier Smile

There's a machine made by Tommee Tippee (perfect prep I think it's called) for this sort of situation. Have never used it myself (didn't FF) but people on here seem to rave about it. It's expensive, but might save you money in the long run over ready made cartons/bottles.

I use a flask. Put hot water in a bottle add formula too up with premeasured cool boiled water. Formula is perfect temperature for drinking.

Takes less than a minute and is a lot cheaper then buying premade or the perfect prep.

I would use the pre-made with a newborn as it is sterile, so that is the safest option.

When the baby is a bit bigger I would make up a couple of bottles at bedtime fresh with boiling water, cool them quickly in a bowl of cold/ice water, and store in the fridge to be reheated when the baby wakes.

Pre made comes in bottles of 200ml or 1 litre and has to be refrigerated once opened. The little bottles are 79p each so costs could mount quickly if you are having to throw the remainder away to avoid going to the fridge!
