Bottle Warmer

i'm thinking of getting a bottle warmer. I FF on demand and DD gets in a tizz especially at night waiting for the kettle to boil and then heat the bottle. Not to mention the wasted of water my plants can only drink so much. Wondered if anyone could recommend or suggest avoiding any bottle warmers

This thread is quite old now and some of the advice may be outdated. However, we’ve recently refreshed our best bottle warmer guide with plenty of high-quality options recommended by real parents. We hope you find it useful.

Don't bother they are no quicker.

Tweezerqueen · 08/09/2006 12:24

Don't bother with bottle heaters, stick to the kettle, it's much quicker and more effective. Bottle warmers are slow, horrible to clean and we quite often forgot to turn it off!

We use an avent one - plug it in the bedroom. DH warms DS's bottle, while I do the nappy feed (or vice versa). Bottle is ready when I bring DS into our room to feed

Really? I loved mine. I used to stumble out of bed, stick the bottle in it, switch it on and fall back in bed until I heard it ping 7 mins later .... but I guess that is longer than waiting for the kettle. It just meant I didn't have to go downstairs.

Did you know they don't have to have warmed milk loopy? They'll drink it at room temperature or out of the fridge.

slalomsuki · 08/09/2006 12:31

Hate to say but I used the microwave for all of mine

Iklboo · 08/09/2006 12:32

We use micro during the day (def no hot spots) and the warmer at night

Surely it's best to just make up bottles of boiled water every morning, leave them at room temperature and add the powder as and when you give them?
It will make life much easier getting the baby used to drinking it at room temperature.

loopybear · 08/09/2006 12:54

Avalou I thought of that but all advise I've had is powder needs hand hot water not room temperature for mixing. Will go and look in mothercare this afternoon will remember about cleaning. Surfer I tried milk from fridge she hated it!!! Thanks for advise

boil your kettle once a day .. fill 6 or 8 bottles with boiled water and leave on side to cool to room temp

add formula as and when you need a bottle .. shake and go

angelbaby1 · 08/09/2006 20:11

If your DD prefers her milk warmer, like my DS, the SMA website recommends that you can warm up your previously boiled and cooled water in the bottle warmer, and then just add your powder to it, shake well and feed. Although its not loads quicker than using boiling water from the kettle to heat up the bottle, it saves those trips downstairs in the middle of the night!

So all you do is take however many bottles of water you'll need upstairs with you at night. Also found the formula container from Boots handy so all the formula is already measured too.

Microwaving bottles of formuala milk...my sister has heard it is supposed to kill all the nutrients ? I hope not as i used it for my first baby also for the food when weaning and still use the mirowave now for defosting and reheating home cooked food. Has anybody else heard this too (hmm)

I use the Avent warmer, much easier than going downstairs and waiting for the kettle. I switch it on when DD is stirring, by the time shes awake its done. It was a good buy IMO.
