Help me I'm in agony!

Ds is 5 weeks. I have a huge lump in the top of my right breast. It's over 50% of the surface of the top I'd say. It's agony. So painful I can barely touch it. I'm feeding ds from it now but it doesn't seem to be helping much.

The midwife thought his latch was fine, I've always thought it was a little weaker on the right side but basically ok.

I don't want it to turn to mastitis I have a toddler to look after too

Please help! What do I do? Should I get someone to check his latch again in case that's causing it?

You need to see your GP. Could be a blocked duct but may be mastitis or an abscess which needs treatment.

You need to be seen as you may already have an infection with a lump/blockage that big.

Poor you! I think you need to see a GP for antibiotics, but in the meantime a hot shower or flannel over that area and try to massage it. Then when feeding try to massage it towards the nipple. Take some paracetamol if you haven't already.

Argh really? I have no other symptoms and I only noticed during the day today.. plus it will be bloody impossible to get a drs appt within the month

Have massaged it with a flannel. Still reaaaaally sore. But the ibuprofen is helping. Ds is asleep and totally uninterested in feeding :(

I have a pump - would that help?

Looks like it probably is mastitis. Not gone away and now very red and painful and spreading across breast, waiting for dr to call me back.

:(

Youch. Keep up the ibuprofen while you're waiting, it'll get the inflammation down and hopefully help it drain. Moist heat on the afflicted area before a feed is good too - hot water on a flannel or in a disposable nappy works! Hope you're better soon.
