"dieting" and milk supply

Just wondering if someone knowledgable can tell me the effect of what you eat on your supply.

DS is 5 weeks, on the 95th percentile and a hungry boy. Up until now, I have been eating pretty badly by my standards - pretty much eating biscuits and cake every day and lots of snacking between meals, large portions etc. Basically enjoying not having to worry about watching what I eat! However, I do think it's time to get back on track a bit and would like to (slowly) start to lose my baby weight. So for the last three days I've been a lot more careful - I wouldn't say I'm dieting as such, but I haven't been eating any cakes and biscuits and have been trying not to snack between meals. I've still been eating a normal balanced diet and have still had quite large portions.

Last night DS was really unsettled and, very unlike him, didn't seem satisfied by his feeds. He seemed to be getting frustrated at the boob, like there wasn't enough there for him and actually I didn't feel such a strong let down as I usually do. I was also really hungry in the night and had to get up and make myself a bowl of cereal! Today, I feel like I might have a bit less milk than usual - I mean, I usually leak a fair bit and have a strong let down, but I haven't had that today.

Could changing my eating have affected my milk supply? I've always been really dismissive of anyone who says you need to eat plenty of cake and fatty foods to keep your supply up and dismissed that as just a (nice!) excuse to eat cake. But is there something in it?!

Don't want to do anything that's going to affect my supply, but would also like to eat a bit more healthily if I can!

No, eating healthily isn't going to affect your supply :)

Nor will eating unhealthily, or changing how you eat either way :)

None of what you say about your baby's behaviour, your let down or your leaking indicates a drop in production, either :)

Ok great thanks Smile Feel silly for asking now, but I guess you get these occasional wobbles when you wonder if you're producing enough! Thanks.
