Breast feeding and the return of your periods.

I was under the impression that whilst exclusively breast feeding a woman does not have her periods.

I have an EBF baby of 11 weeks and over the last 3-4 days I've been having deep aches and cramps that are exactly like the ones I'd get a few days before my period would arrive.

Could it be possible my body is gearing up for them again despite breast feeding??

Writer - don't know from personal experience but perhaps Allxion means the breast tenderness that sometimes comes with the onset of a period makes breastfeeding uncomfortable?

I never had any pain. I think hormones can make nipples sore though - I had that in pregnancy when I was still Bf-ing

Hormones seem to make my nipples v sensitive - always felt tender around periods and was very uncomfortable throughout pregnancy with it - it has impacted on breastfeeding too. I guess everyone is different!

So for me, your post asking about periods returning made me realise what my body was doing!

Fat lady here and no periods yet, though starting to get cramps. DD is nearly 20 weeks old, ebf day and night.

Bodies are like babies - they'll what they want, when they want no matter if it worries us Grin

dc2 and dc1 once nightfeeds stopt at around 17 mo but they also went to nursery so went long periods without bf.
