I'm going on a hen do in 3 weeks, it's actually a hen weekend but I'm just going for the first day & evening and not staying over. How long do you think I can reasonably leave DS without:
a) having to express due to engorgement
b) without DS getting too upset

For info:
he's 5 months old and exclusively breastfed
he feeds every 3 hours in day, and twice in the night
he will take a bottle, but has only had to have a bottle about 10 times before so he's not exactly used to it

Haha oh I've been there. Engorgement depends on your usual supply and demand (and I have taken the top of a manual pump into the ladies with me when its happened in a nightclub), he might also get upset but he will get over it. do you trust who you are leaving him with? I cant give you any answers because the answers you need are specific to you and your baby

I'm leaving him with DH, I trust him but if DS gets upset it will be difficult for him because he's looking after DC1 as well.

I've no idea what to expect as I've never left DS for so long before, only for a few hours. I know he'll happily take one feed from DH in a bottle, but I'm always back in time for the next feed.

With DC1 it was never an issue as she refused a bottle so I never left her until she was weaned Hmm

The hen do is about 1.5 hours away so it's not like a can just pop back if it all goes horribly wrong Grin

Personally I'd spend from now til then expressing some every night, til I've got enough to stay overnight. It's such a nice break having a whole night off.
In my experience, I would take my pump with me if I was away for an afternoon and evening and pump maybe once every 4 hours. But I suppose everyone will be different as our babies will feed differently.

I'm definitely not staying overnight, it won't be a nice break it'd be a complete hassle Grin

I'm no good at expressing and don't really have the time to dedicate to building up a supply, it literally takes ages to get a couple of ounces.

Any milk DS will have when I'm not there will be formula.
