bf and joint/ ligament pain

Currently bfing dc3 (7.5 months) and have been getting lots of random, wandering joint/ ligament pains. It started in my foot a couple of months ago and then gradually progressed to other areas- hands, fingers, thumbs, wrists, forearms, neck. At first i thought i must be starting with arthritis but then read it can be to do with levels of the hormone relaxin still in the body. Am hoping it is this. My neck has been so stiff this last couple of days and now i keep getting pins and needles in my thumb- driving me nuts. Anyone else suffering or suffered with this?

Ej23

I think you were also on the vit d thread - interesting as I also have had significant wrist trouble. My dd is 16 months, was ebf till 6 months, now feeds about twice after work then all night a couple of times at night.

My wrist pain got worse from about 3 m to a year ish. Then seemed to be better but recently it is back.

If I turn my hands sometimes it's as if my thumb dislocates, or the tendon pops and I have to gently manoeuvre it back into place. I do struggle picking dd up if she is at an angle. I do weights in the gym and can no longer do pull ups because of the pain.

I don't think it's carpal tunnel for me although I had that in last trimester. It is in the joint between thumb and wrist, this is apparently a vulnerable joint as it us a saddle joint ( I don't really know what I'm talking about btw, just what a sports masseur told me)

Hi. Catellington, do you think you're wrist issue could be that Dr Quervain's thing? Comes from repetitive pincer grip like picking child up or wringing washing.

Possibly, I should really get it looked at but as it sometimes doesn't bother me for a while I think it's solved, then it comes back.

I do wonder however what part nutrition and hormones have to play, I can't find anything definitive on relaxin when breast feeding online so not sure. I have only relatively recently started taking multivits, as I have lots of niggles, skin, hair, ulcers, and seems logical to me that I would be nutrient deficient having bf for 16 months.
Think I will do the vit d test too and see what that says

really interesting to read this. I'm hypermobile but it's never really caused any real problems other than my shoulders popping in and out every now and then.

I have been suffering with general pain and achiness over the last few months which has got quite bad at some points, similar sort of short sharp pain you've mentioned ej. This evening it's affected my right elbow and left ankle!

I have been breastfeeding 4 years now (2 children back to back with a short period of tandem feeding in the middle) and don't take any supplements. Will have to look into vit. d as it would make a huge difference to me getting back into exercise and getting fit if it did make a difference to this achiness.

Hope you make some progress with yours, sorry the GP was being a twonk Smile

Yes to vit d test Catellington and PogoBob! Thinking everyone should get one done. Back at GP's today and saw different doctor. Have had blood tests done again for RA but also for Borrelia bacteria which causes Lyme Disease. Stressed!
