If baby has thrush it's probably advisable to avoid breastfeeding if possible, right?

Not necessary to avoid bf. But make sure mum gets thrush treatment too otherwise you will just pass it backand forth.

Thank you. I've been expressing since yesterday morning and it's becoming a PITA already.

I had thrush and continued breastfeeding. I treated us both and it cleared up pretty quickly with medication and good hygiene (boil washing everything milky etc).

I wouldn't bother expressing, I don't imagine that will help. You'll have to treat both you and the baby though. Both mine have had thrush and I used daktarin gel for the baby and canestan for my nipples, it cleared in a few days.

THrush is easy to treat and is not usually a resaon to stop breastfeeding.

Thank you. We went to the GP today and now have antibiotics so it should hopefully clear up soon. So far I don't seem to have it, would it be obvious if I did?

Recently I've been in two minds about whether to gradually cut down the breastfeeding with a view to stopping soon but today has made me realise I want to continue for a little while longer.

I've not heard of being given antibiotics to treat thrush Confused It's often taking antibiotics that causes thrush in the first place!

Does the baby have thrush in the mouth? They need miconazole (daktarin) oral gel for it. Even if you don't have symptoms you need to treat your nipples too (miconazole or clotrimazole cream).

Here's some info www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/dibm/Thrush_and_Breastfeeding_Feb_2013.pdf

Not antibiotics, no. I meant treatment! He's been prescribed nystatin. He also has chickenpox at the moment so not much sleeping going on here.

Nystatin isn't very effective. What have you been prescribed? You both need to be treated even if you aren't obviously infected or you will just pass it back an forth.

Hi OP both myself and 6 week old Ds had thrush a couple of weeks ago and I very nearly stopped breastfeeding over it, it was honestly so painful I'd end up in tears!

The dr prescribed the same treatment for me as you and we were both cleared up within the week and feeding perfectly again now.

I know a lot of people have problems with the drops not being very effective but honestly we had no issues!
