Is this reflux?

DS had reflux as a baby so I must admit I've been looking out for it with DD who is 2 weeks old. I've just changed my clothes for the 2nd time today after being drenched with sick and am starting to wonder if I should take her to the doctor.

She is ebf and will fuss and feed on and off for long sessions until she is properly sick. She seems to be doing this in the evenings and sometimes during the day. I am feeding on demand and during these sessions I alternate between worrying she is feeding too much and blaming it on my supply. She will be rooting a lot but quite often will pull off crying soon after she latches.

She is also very unhappy on her back - pulling up her legs, crying and posseting even if I keep her upright for ~20minutes after feeding. I have resorted to co-sleeping with her sleeping on her side (which I am worrying about but I think the alternative would be no one sleeping).

DS was a terrible sleeper and I think it was because we didn't pick up on the reflux quickly enough. Infant gaviscon helped but by then everything was a mess. I'm keen to deal with it quickly this time but also don't want her to take medicine she doesn't need. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is the vomit flying? IME doctors class vomit as possett, vomit, and reflux, by which latter they mean 1-2 metres through the air. It looks like something from a horror film and you can't quite believe your eyes when you see it happen.

There's always the small risk of pyloric stenosis (blockage - in which case all the milk is likely to be coming back up at speed and it's easy to overestimate how much is coming back up), so worth seeing your GP if it continues or (quickly) if you see signs of dehydration in your baby.

It sounds like it could be reflux, or wind as well. There should be no projectile vomiting...if there is you should contact your GP straight away as this is a sign of pyloric stenosis. How is she if you keep her upright after feeds? We had to get a reflux mattress (angled to keep the food down), keep LO upright for an hour after feeds (exhausting!) pillow under the changing mat etc.

I would get an appt with your GP to discuss it with them. A refluxy baby is no fun!

Edit....CAN be a sign of...not is a sign of...

Thanks for the replies. The vomiting isn't projectile so hopefully not pyloric stenosis (and not that frequent either). She will vomit even if she is upright - quite often over my shoulder. I think if it is reflux it is more likely to be silent reflux and she is over feeding for the comfort of the milk. I don't know though if she is sucking for comfort to get herself to sleep. Guess I will try and get to the doctor's but I have a feeling that I will probably get some infant gaviscon and they won't be any wiser than me as to whether it really is reflux.

If it's silent reflux then Gaviscon won't help at all and you'll need something to neutralise the acidity, Ranitidine for example...

Could it be wind? X
