What harm would one little sudafed do?

Am bfeeding 6 month DS and have the worst cold in forever. Lying here can't sleep cos so bunged up and snotty and i know the kitchen drawer is crammed full of cold medicines... Just one dose to help me sleep tonight? I've braved the last two days with tissue paper stemming the flow of snot but can't take any more...

What would happen? Is the supply damage permanent? Or just temporary? Anyone ever succumbed?

I would use a nasal spray decongestant as the effect is much more likely to be localised and little will get into your bloodstream.

I've had one. I work 12 hour shifts and have taken one at the beginning of work when really bad. I think that if you take it and then allow your baby to feed it can make your baby a bit hyper because it is a stimulant but don't take that as gospel.
What I did notice is that normally at the end of my shift I would be full to bursting, but after taking a sudafed my boobs didn't feel at all full, though by the next day the supply seemed to come back.
Agree that a nasal spray is a good option.

You can use steam, menthol crystals, vicks, a neti pot, paracetamol, anti-inflammatories etc. Have you tried these avenues?

Thanks. I found a calpol saline spray and used that and sniffed some snufflebabe in the end. Smile

It dries up your supply. I don't think one would be too bad, especially if your baby is older. NO supply damage could be permanent unless you're actually removing milk ducts, so I wouldn't worry.

Yes, one sudafed once supply is well established is unlikely to do any harm.

Stérimar saline nasal spray - they do a plain one and a copper/manganese one for congestion relief.
