3 year old showing no signs of wanting stop breastfeeding

3 yo DS2 still has a feed at bedtime and first thing in the morning. I'd never set out to breastfeed for this long and always assumed he'd self wean and lose interest at some stage. ..... but now I'm beginning to have my doubts!

I'm not desperate to stop bf but am wondering if it will just get harder to do, the later I leave it. DS2 is fine 'going without' during the daytime if I'm at work but it does mean he won't settle if I'm out and DH tries to put him to bed at night, with an hour of crying and wailing this is stressful for both of them.

How did you wean your toddler / pre-schooler?

TIA

DD1 weaned with strong encouragement at just over 5yo and in year 1 at school.

DS self weaned at 4yo and in reception.

Currently in negotiations with DD1 to stop at 4yo...currently 3.5yo...wonder if she does. Not a matter. She only has bedtime milk.

Still nursing little DD1 but she is under 2 yo, so no where near ready to wean in my eyes.

I went cold turkey

DD was 3 and starting preschool so I decided that would be a good milestone for her

It was painless for her and me

I put plasters on my boobs and said that they weren't working anymore as she had drunk all the milk

Obvs can only work if you aren't feeding another child

What a fascinating article Pabboo it must be so relaxing to BF in such a supportive culture.

My DS fed once in the night and took a tiny sip this morning. He's been asking for milk but when I get out a boob he says no and just wants a cuddle. I think this might be ending. Smile Sad

I did feed while my dd was at school, yes. She fed for the first year of reception and most of year one, but I don't think it was something she ever mentioned to friends. None of her friends saw her being fed, as she would feed in bed. So no unkind comments, or even not unkind ones, as far as I know. I do think that her teachers would have been horrified if they had known though!

This is a lovely thread. DD is only 19 months but Is very Mongolian in her attitude to breastfeeding. She feeds more frequently than her 3 month old cousin if allowed.

However I have stopped feeding her to sleep/at night very recently and after less than a week of this she let DH put her to bed. (I was working late) She is still a milk monster in the day but such a relief DH can settle her now, despite his lack of boobies.
