Extended BF and TTC

Yet to quite persuade DH but want to do my research first...

A bit of background - DD (13mo) conceived with IUI cos DH has sperm issues and I got nervous with the wait (am now 39 ). Having conceived our lo I would love a sibling if possible. My mum and sister had late babes (Mum was 11 days shy of 43rd birthday when I was born and I am, ahem, not exactly a scrawny sickly wee mite!! ) so am holding out that the genes might be in my favour even if the calendar isn't. My pre-IUI tests showed good hormone levels for my age but you know, you read all this stuff about sharply declining fertility post-35 and I wonder..... We have to go au naturel cos all the ??s were spent on our treatments first time around(and worth every darn penny). I am wondering whether my decision to extend BF is going to impact on our TTC this time? DH's sperm issues not critical but still there. My periods returned at 6mos despite exclusive BF. DD still feeds between 3 and 6 times a day but night-weaned at 11 weeks (dunno why, nothing we did but we remain grateful). My periods are regular, the same flow but cycles are now 27/8 days roughly when they used to be more like 33 days.

Sorry, this is a bit of a ramble. In a nutshell, what sort of impact do you think 3-6 shortish feeds a day would have on my fertility. When I express I get about 20mls on a good day, rarely more.

TIA

mamaberta, I am not medical, and what I can share with you is limited, but I think the evidence is that even with regular normal periods, any breastfeeding can havce some impact on ovulation/fertility - you could do some temp taking to see if you are ovulating every month, and I believe there are blood tests you could have to check, too.

My understanding is that one month you could ovulate normally, and not another, so a one-off testing/temp taking might not be good enough. However, the fact you are having periods would indicate you are probably fertile.

There is a TTC board on mumsnet I think - might be a good idea to post there.
