What is your favorite thing about breastfeeding?

I was thinking about this this morning as I'm halfway there with having dc3. My most favorite bit is when they are around 3 months +, come off (shortly after let down, milk spraying everywhere), just to smile at you Smile melts my heart everytime even though we are both getting soaked in breast milk

Congratulations sizzles.

I enjoy the way dd pads my boob sometimes like a kitten, and the fact it mostly gets her to sleep without fail. My favourite bit is when she pulls off in the milky coma stage and she looks so beautiful and sweet and innocent and content, I sometimes stare at her for a little while before putting her down.

Liveinthepresent · 05/05/2014 22:47

ooh lovely lovely thread. congrats sizzles

for me it is definitely the way my DS pats my boob during feeds at the moment - i think he wants the milk to hurry up now he is bigger. when he was tiny the let down used to make him cough and splutter.
I will miss it so much when we stop.

Romily · 05/05/2014 22:51

I loved the sleep morning cuddly feeds all cozied up in bed. Gutted that I am not still breast feeding.

fridayfreedom · 05/05/2014 22:53

With out wanting to sound wierd , I used to like the tingling feeling of the letdown. I still get a sensation in my breasts when I hear a small baby crying for milk!

SizzlesSit · 05/05/2014 23:13

Thanks everyone. Im looking forward to those satisfied drunken looks soon too. When the baby pulls off and looks in total bliss

Pollycracker · 06/05/2014 09:22

Oh and the weight loss! I ate like a pig while breastfeeding DD1. And of course I had out on some baby weight.

By time I finished feeding her (she was 10 months and we wanted to ttc), I was a size 6!!

soupmaker · 06/05/2014 11:25

I love how a massive middle of the night feed makes DD2 conk out. That drunk on milk look is just gorgeous.

I haven't lost loads of weight, just my baby weight. Had been hoping to lose a stone extra! Must be the cakes!

I also love being able to leave the house without thinking about it as food is on tap.

Sunflower1985 · 06/05/2014 12:48

When we're feeding lying down and ds is half asleep and starts rooting like a truffle pig.
First day back at work today and am expressing while he's at nursery. Missing him so much.

LikeCandy · 06/05/2014 21:00

I love breastfeeding!
But probably my favourite thing is that so far (13.5months) I am yet to encounter a bump/scrape/teary/sleepy situation that boob can't solve!

Cariad007 · 06/05/2014 21:29

I wouldn't say I love it but it's free, no faffing around with bottles, I can feed lying down, and the weight has dropped off despite my scoffing of cakes. I weigh 5 kilos less than I did before I got pregnant!

Bunbaker · 06/05/2014 21:35

"The cuddles"

Why does everyone think that FF babies don't get cuddles? Because they do.

I BF DD for 6 months and then bottle fed her. She got cuddled just as much when she was feeding from a bottle.

QuietNinjaTardis · 06/05/2014 21:41

When she pops off to grin at me, she looks so cheeky. When she's fallen asleep and I'm trying to get her to unlatch and she roots around looking for the boob again in her sleep. When she rests her hand on my chest.
The fact that I've helped her grow from a skinny legged thing into the chunka munka she is now. Actually she's not chunky she's quite a petite baby but her legs are so fat I want to eat them!

MoreSkyThanWeNeed · 07/05/2014 08:01

My baby is less than a year old but this thread is making me so broody for another one!
I'm going to write down my bf memories (mammary memories, if you will!) and put them in the baby book. Sooner than I realise, this will all be a very distant memory. Sniff.

Bunbaker · 07/05/2014 08:05

Can someone explain what is so enjoyable about the actual process of breastfeeding.

Most of you have waxed lyrical about the benefits, which I agree with, but I didn't find the actual process enjoyable (once I had got past the initial pain), or unenjoyable.

gamerchick · 07/05/2014 08:14

This thread seems to be irritating you bunbaker is there not allowed for a thread just to 'be'?

Bunbaker · 07/05/2014 08:21

No, it isn't irritating, I just want to understand why. Honestly, do some women get some kind of physical release or pleasure from breastfeeding?

CleanAllOfTheThings · 07/05/2014 08:25

The way it seems to fix any problem and offers such comfort. I know some people disagree but I think feeding to sleep is a wonderful perk!
I just love how much dd enjoys it and they way she roots for the nipple when she's asleep.
Friday - I weirdly like the letdown too.

CleanAllOfTheThings · 07/05/2014 08:27

There is a satisfying sense of release when your baby has gone longer than usual without feeding and they finally latch on!

CleanAllOfTheThings · 07/05/2014 08:29

I forgot my absolute favourite thing. When dd is tired and latches on, watching her eyes roll around and her eyelids get heavy as she feeds. It is the cutest thing ever.

QuietNinjaTardis · 07/05/2014 08:34

The actual breastfeeding isn't pleasurable but enjoying snuggles ESP sleepy ones whilst feeding and having that closeness feels fab. And yes I felt the same when I was ff my son, I always sat down and gave him a cuddle while he ate bit this thread is about breastfeeding not ff. if you don't like it then go away bunbaker.

gamerchick · 07/05/2014 08:36

Well no here no physical pleasure nursing.. I never noticed any anyroad... The pleasure comes from how your kid responds. It's a good feeling seeing them milk drunk and filling out chunky knowing it was your milk that did it etc.

Aside from the early days when you fill up and feel fit to burst that is as has been said Grin

Bunbaker · 07/05/2014 08:36

There is no need for that. I genuinely wanted to understand.

kinkytoes · 07/05/2014 08:49

bunbaker no one here has said ff babies don't get cuddles. This is a place to celebrate bf, nothing more. Don't change the agenda please.

For me, I love the feeling that his little body next to mine sets off a chemical reaction which lets him feed. Still feeding past a year and we both still get so much from it.

CountBapula · 07/05/2014 09:04

Both my DSes did this funny thing as newborns when they'd had enough milk. They'd unlatch really suddenly by throwing their heads back, then they'd get the cutest facial expression - their eyebrows would shoot up, they'd wrinkle their little foreheads and purse their lips. Then if I lifted them up they'd have their hands behind their heads and their legs bent up - little bundles of contentedness.

DS2 is only six weeks and I'm loving it every time it happens Grin

deepinthewoods · 07/05/2014 09:04

Oxytocin. It is called the hormone of love.

It's what happens when a let down happens, and stimulates milk to be produced. It also stimulates areas in our brain to do with love, trust, nurturing, induces feelings of caring and calm.
