9 month old DD biting really hard - think I need to stop breastfeeding

Really upset. DD keeps biting my nipples when I'm feeding her. I'm at a stage now where I just tense up everytime I try feeding her.

I'm upset because I love breast feeding her but it just hurts SO much.

Saying no makes no difference so just grins at me!

Any advice?

Mine did at 17 months & I just couldn't go on, so had to stop despite wanting to continue.

I don't have remedies but interested to know if anyone else does.

Hey, Just wanted to say this happened to me too! My baby went through a few bitey phases (often teething related) and it hurt so much that at times I was scared to feed! I almost quit one evening when she bit so hard my nipple bled (!), but soon after that she grew out of it luckily.

So my advice to you would be: if you both still love breastfeeding and would like to continue, just keep going. When she bites, remove her from the breast and say "no" firmly. I think they do get the message after a while, or else they just seem to grow out of it. However if it doesn't improve or if you would like to stop, just stop! You've done really well feeding till 9 months. Good luck!

She is teething badly at the moment - she has 4 top teeth coming down. It's embarrassing as well if I'm feeding in public - she gets distracted and looks around without letting go and I squeal.

I could have written this post! And I am stopping or trying to

It is possible to discourage her from biting. Every time she bites, immediately remove her from the breast and say 'no, no biting' gently but firmly. If she needs to feed some more, wait a minute or two before putting her on again. However, I found with my DD (at the same age) that she mostly bit me at the end of the feed when the milk was running out/she was getting bored.

Soft sheen describes my exact experience - when it happens it was often towards the end. A stern no, removal (& reattach if not finished) and it did stop. Good luck. I'm so pleased I didn't give up but gawd yes it can be sooo painful can't it?!

Sunflower1985 · 05/05/2014 07:16

Exact same situation with my 9mo. I have a little hole on one nipple now. So painful. I'm back to applying the lansinoh every five minutes.
Saying no and putting him down seemed to get the message through and eventually he stopped. Then he got a cold and now it's worse than ever.
But still I think it would break both out hearts to stop bf now.

Tough.

I stopped feeding my DD at 14 months after 4 months of constant biting. In the end there was more biting than feeding so I stopped offering and she never asked for it! I was gutted though I wanted to feed till 2. Saying no, putting her down and walking away Etc made no difference.

Well no biting yet today but this is her worst time of night. Tired but fighting sleep.

Hi. I have a 9 month old piranha. Each and every one of her 8 teeth has been cut on my fucking nipple. Now she has a stinking cold and has to bob on and off to breath . she does the bottom lip wobble and crys when i do ' No no biting' but i do it anyway. They have to learn No at some point!
I console myself with the positives. It's good for her, i don't stress about what she's eating food wise as i know she'll make it up with milk. She's started moving and pulling things and has had 3 little knocks this weekend. Boob has fixed all :)
I'm helping her fight her cold.
This to shall pass.
I still have lansinoh left
We worked to hard to give up now.
It doesn't happen every day. Good days make it worth while :)
I want to hear her ask for 'mummy milk' with real words :)

Could you try nipple shields? Never tried myself but thought about it.

Agree with the taking off, no and putting down. As it stops them getting what they want
