Breast pads! Which ones?

Sorry another question from me! When will I need to start using breast pads (should i take them in my hospital bag??) and are there any that are better than the others or are they all the same? thanks everyone! :-)

You may not need them while you're in hospital, it kind of depends on how long you're there/when your milk comes in, but I'd put them in your bag just in case! I got very leaky when my milk came in both times so they were invaluable. They vary a bit in comfort and absorbency (kind of like sanitary towels!), I personally like the Lansinoh and Avent ones.

I used the Lansinoh ones which were very good. ASDA own brand ones were nice and soft but only had the tiniest patch of adhesive on the back so moved around a lot, especially at night.

I had to use them once my milk came in, about 2 days after having DS. I used them for months too because I was seriously leaky. I had to change them really frequently too as I soaked them! I don't think you'll need them at the hospital unless you're there for a few days and your milk has come in. Maybe leave them somewhere clear for your DH/DP to bring if you end up in a few days.

I've tried loads and found lasinoh were the best. They are much more expensive but I needed to use less of them as they stay dry. Fabric washable ones I found comfy but they do leave quite a shape if you wear tighter tops

And milk coming in varies a lot but you don't tend to properly start leaking for 2-5 days.

Any experience of the Johnson & Johnson nursing pads?

I liked the Johnson and Johnson ones a lot. It depends on your bra and the size/shape of your boobs! I ended up using Boots slim ones more as the J&J ones are more pricey. Don't stock up now, wait and see what you prefer once you're feeding. Good luck!

Lansinoh stick to bras well and are absorbent but they have a seam like thing down the middle, which annoyed the hell out of me, my poor cracked and bleeding nips wanted to be on soft padding not the seam!! Boots own brand are nice and soft...

I find the tommee tippee ones the best...they are bigger than others I have tried and I don't soak through them as quickly...especially good for during the night! The Johnson ones are lovely and soft but don't seem big enough. Have tried Tescos ones coz they were more reasonably priced but might as well not have been wearing anything!

Shall i see how I go with the Johnson and Johnson ones before buying any more dyou think?

I like Boots own brand and they're always on 3 for 2. The cheaper ones tend to come in one big pack whereas the more expensive ones are individually wrapped (Boots ones are) so are better for in changing bags etc. I think it's worth getting more expensive ones as leaky milk on tops and nighties isn't great and even expensive ones are quite cheap in the scheme of things!

Don't stock up too much because as the posts show everybody's fit is a bit different and boob size and bra can make a huge difference. You might need to try a few sorts before you find the one for you. J&J are good - maybe start with those and see what you think. Online ordering can get any brand to you pretty quickly! You also might not need them after a few weeks - depends on whether you end up being leaky! I use different ones at night as I like to reposition then when I roll over and I leak much more at night.

It's true of most baby things actually - don't get too much until you know what you and baby like otherwise you could waste a lot of money.

I found the johnsons ones too chemically next to very sore nipples in the early days, i was much happier with supermarket own brand (i usee tesco and morrisons). Johnsons fit to your boob better and absorb more so were great when things settled a bit but i wouldnt reconmend themvforvthe first days. Maybe getv2 packsso u have an alternative?
