Hi, Im not now (DS 6 years) but did when he was 5 weeks old and was downing milk at ridiculous rate every 2 hours. It was HV suggestion and babe settled so much better once switched. You can only try, theyll soon let you know if they don`t like it, good luck.

Hi

I tried switching my lo to hungrier formula, and he vomited it all up, and had a worse feeding pattern than before! I do think he would benefit tho, so would be keen to hear any tips that other mums might have for hungrier babies..

i used it with dd, who was a rabidly hungry baby (the manager at tescos once had to pack my bags for me, as she wouldn't let me stop feeding her, and this was her third full bottle since i started going round tesco!)
i found introducing it gradually worked - e.g. 2 oz of hungry fomular with 4 oz of normal, after a few days went to a 50/50 mix. each time i upped the hungry formula, she was more likely to belch liquid after a feed, but it worked (until she was 10 weeks, when i was back to mega feeds). it did make life easier. also, she liked a full feed after waking, but quite often liked a little top up before eh settled for her next feed.

hi there

i am a new mum to my first baby, a 9ib 50z boy! who needs to be fed every 2 hours! he is bottlefed as i couldnt meet his demands breastfeeding, is this normal to feed your baby on 2-4 hour intervals when they are a week old? should we feed on demand? any thoughts?

tiktok · 31/08/2006 23:57

Hi, bug...yes, this pattern is very normal for breastfed babies (who may feed rather more often and less predictably) and for formula fed babies. Baby-led feeding is normally the best way to go, whatever the method, though - if you wanted to re-start breastfeeding now you know this pattern is normal, and that you will certainly be able to meet his needs, then you still can do so. Post again if you want to know more about this....at just a week old you can restart without much of a problem, in fact.

bottlefeeding works better for our family as my husband likes to join in the feeds as well and it means i get a break during the night. What is everyones thoughts on letting them cry for a bit? and how long? whats the first thing you do when they cry? any thoughts appreciated

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 01/09/2006 14:16

I'm feeding my baby sma white and he settled much better on that the gold. he does get constipated every now and again and doesn't like the taste of water but with a bit of perseverance he does take it in the end I don't think i'd be sane without sma white cos feeding a difficult to wind baby every 2 hrs overnight is not funny!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 01/09/2006 14:20

ps bugpurle, i tend not to let ds cry for very long cos when he cries he wants something, he doesn't just cry for no reason esp during the night cos usually he sleeps for 8 hrs (17wks)

louii · 01/09/2006 14:22

You dont leave a week old baby to cry, they are crying for a reason.

the midwife came the other day and said about a new bacteria that had been found when you prepare bottlefeeds in advance and store them in the fridge and reheat - has anyone else heard about this and what are your thoughts? she suggested putting the water into the bottles and then adding the powder when you need it and then heat...views?
