Bottle refusal!!

Hi, my DS is EBF, but will take bottles. He's all of a sudden refusing bottles and when we try he gets very distressed and cries his heart out. It's so sad to see, especially as he's a very happy little chappy and him crying is very rare. He's 5 months now and has taken his bottles in the past fine. Admitantly, doesn't have a bottle on regular occasions each week, but we've never worried about it before because he's always taken it with no issues. I've bought new bottles, different teats, Timmy tippee explorer handles so he can try it himself, but no joy. I'm assuming he's become very attached to me and only wants me to feed him. We've also tried me being out of the room and my husband feeding hun, my mum and my father in law have tried, with no joy. I've read that you shouldn't try a bottle if you're having difficulties when your baby is hungry. I've therefore tried just before a feed, but still no joy. He sleeps through the night and wakes up ravenous, so I'm tempted to try bottle feeding him in the morning, but the guidance from various websites say not to do that. I'm after some advice or guidance on what I can do or try? Has anyone else been through this?? Thanks in advance, Lou x

Could he be teething? Might make a bottle uncomfortable.

If you don't need him to take a bottle then I would just leave it for a bit.

Do you need him to take a bottle?

Some babies will just decide they don't want to take a bottle even if they have happy taken one before. it's actually better to try when they are not hungry, let them play with the bottle.

You can also think about skipping straight to free flow cups at this age.

If you don't need to use a bottle right now giving it a rest for a short while mite help.

I think he has been teething for weeks now. Plenty of finger and fist chewing, runny nose, general signs of teething.

Apart from my husband it family helping with feeds, it's not a major problem that he has a bottle. I've started weaning him the week too, and considerf stopping breastfeeding once weaning was established, or at least only breastfeeding when he wants milk either side of food, but I'm not too worried, just wondered if there may gave been other mums with similar babies who had this issue. I guess it a good thing he's not refusing to feed at all! In time I'm sure he'll start taking the bottle. Thanks for your responses :) x

if you have started weaning just forget the bottle head straight for a cup. If you get him practicing with a cup now he'll be able to take milk from it if needed soon enough.

You aren't supposed to offer bottles after 12 months anyway due causing problems with teeth, so you mite as well just start on cups now.
