Hello.

I'm returning to work on Tuesday & I am still bf'ing my nearly 11 month old. I am only working two days a week. Different shifts, one 9am - 6pm, the other 11am - 8pm.

Really want to carry on feeding her but for at least one day a week I will miss her bedtime. I still feed first thing in morning and if she wakes in night. (Usually when DH & I go to bed, she is still in our room).

I don't feed her to sleep but she defo wants milk between 3pm & 6pm, depending on where we are. She will sometimes have morning "snack" feed as well.

I am worried that me returning to work may end up with us stopping bf'ding. Obviously she is on solids as well. Do you think she would self wean or can we continue? Also will she be distressed without an evening feed when I'm not there?

sorry post is long now, I am just worrying about this.

hi, a friend of mine continued bf-ing under the same circumstances and her son took to it well. She just fed when she could e.g. mornings and some evenings. Although I wasn't working, my daughter self weaned and dropped the night feed completely so I was just doing a morning feed for about 3-4 months - which suited us both. And my DD loved being put to bed by daddy - having not really been a daddy's girl for the first year of her life. I think babies can be pretty flexible, and if you want to continue breastfeeding around your schedule and your DD is happy with that, you should carry on.

Thank you so much for your reply! That is very reassuring. I feel a lot calmer now, was getting stressed about how it was going to work.
Thank you again.

I went back to work FT and carried on Breastfeeding

A child of 11 months is pretty adaptable - if you aren't there she won't want milk and if you are, then she will

She can also be distracted and offered snacks

It will all be fine

Thanks Ruby.
