I'm probably panicking over nothing but I just need some reassurance this is normal.
I bf ds for 15 months. One year later I'm now 20 weeks preg. I know my milk had completely dried up, I couldn't squeeze even one drop out until today. Nipples feeling slightly irritated and when I checked there was drops of clear and drops of milky liquid.

Is this normal for so early?

Don't worry it's totally normal!

Colostrum production begins in the second trimester. Perfectly normal to notice drips or crusts on the nipples from around 16 weeks. However some people will get no visible signs of colostrum production and everything is still perfectly fine.

Thank youSmile intresting that I didn't have a drop until ds was born.

Hi op, I've been feeding dd (23mo), until recently, just from one boob. She's weaned within the last week or so but I'd noticed colostrum in the 'unused' boob from about 14 weeks or so. Am 20 weeks now. Amazed at having two types of milk going on! But I guess our bodies have a good go at providing for all.

The body actually 'resets' to colostrum during pregnancy even if a mother continues feeding an older child throughout.
