breast pump advice

DD1 had problems latching on, so from day 2 i expressed and gave breastmilk via bottle. I got myself into a routine and until I'll health on my behalf did this for 5 months when we gradually moved into formula. With DD1 i used a medela swing single pump which was fantastic at getting milk........however time consuming.

I am now due DD2 in 13 weeks, and although i do intend to try breastfeeding again i also want to be more prepared as DD1 will be 17mths and i know i wont have the hours to sit expressing so i have been looking at a double pump.....or buying a second medela swing.

i know there are a few makes out their claiming to be as good as medela......and i will consider pre loved, but does anyone have any advice on which ones are winners and which are not worth considering.

I know you can rent hospital grade pumps for around 50 per month but i have been looking around and a pre loved single pump is also selling for this.

Thanks for your help in advance :)

I rented a double hospital grade from medela I think it was around £40 a month. It was totally worth it. I also bought a tommee tippee single pump which broke within a month.

The ameda lactaline is supposed to be very good. It is a closed system so fine to buy second hand.

Medela pumps are an open system so you should never buy or sell one that has been used.

Ardo Calypso. Absolutely brilliant pump, in my experience, very efficient and quiet. Also closed system so safe to buy second hand.

2nd vote here for the Ardo. i'm renting mine for £10 a month...totally worth it. My supply has nearly doubled in the past 3 weeks which I put down to the pump.

Wow £10 a month!! That's fantastic!! Do you mind me asking where you hire it from?? Everything I've looked at on the net is £50 a month. Will certainly look into hiring for that price, or buying the other second hand

Thanks ladies :)

Another vote for Ardo calypso double. I upgraded to one from a Medela swing when I went back to work as I needed to pump more in less time and the swing wasn't cutting it. Very glad I did as it enabled me to keep up with DD's milk needs whilst away from her until she was 1. A pumping bustier, or similar, is essential so you can pump hands free. I bought one called pumpease, I think - it was brilliant- just popped it on over my bra, under my top, shoved pump 'horns' in and could get on with work whilst pumping.

Oh - and if you buy 2nd hand you should only buy a closed system pump, such as Ardo or Lactaline. Don't buy a Medela swing used (google for reason - I can't link as on phone)
