I feel a bit emotional about it. DD has just turned one. I did her last feed on her birthday. We had a very difficult start - she was low birth weight (5lb 4oz) and struggled to latch. The hospital were brilliant and we finally got there with nipple shields which we eventually weaned off. She's been mix fed since 4 months which worked well for us.

It's my choice to stop although she doesn't seem to miss it! There's things I'm looking forward to (antihistamines being one!) but I am a bit sad. Don't know why I'm posting really other than to mark it.

I know how you feel, I bf dd1 until she was 1 aswell. Really missed the contact and bonding when we stopped. Doing it all again now with dd2, she's only 10wks so plenty of time left to enjoy!

Well done from me too Smile

I think whenever you stop you feel a little bit sad, it's natural when you're moving on to the next stage.

And another pat on the back from me, you did great! Onwards into toddlerhood now where lots of other exciting things are waiting for you. I stopped at 14 months, was a bit sad but it was the right time for us.

MigGril · 16/04/2014 14:05

congratulations for making it to 12 months well done.

For another time though if needed you can take modern antihistamines www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/drugs-in-breastmilk-information-and-factsheets. And even the old ones are ok for a short time.

ALittleFaith · 16/04/2014 14:51

I've found it easier since DH has now said he might be up for DC2!

Yes I am proud of both of us. DD is now a healthy 19lb so had gone from 0.4th centile (!) to sitting between the 25th and 50th. She's the same for length so she's exactly as she should be!

Well done, it's really hard work mix feeding a baby who doesn't really get BFing. DD1 gave up very firmly at your DDs age.

I was sad for about a 5 minutes, before deciding we were both much happier with just bottles.

DD2 Was the absolute opposite and BF for years. I don't feel guilty about that either. I simply did what worked best.

SomethingOnce · 16/04/2014 16:31

I understand. I felt all wistful when I knew DD had had her last feeds at nearly two, but all good things must come to an end...

You did a brilliant job establishing BF and carrying on for so long Thanks

pinkr · 17/04/2014 21:43

well done faith Grin Grin

What a wonderful achievement to feed for so long, well done!

ALittleFaith · 17/04/2014 22:49

Thanks all! I'm just waiting for my supply to dry up so I can go underwear shopping. I think I'll kind of miss this marvellous rack though Hmm

Oh wow, well done to both of you.

I have a few tears welling up reading this and thinking about when I will have to call it a day. What was such a hard thing to get started on eventually becomes the best moments of the day. Even though day time feeds now only take about 10 mins, its that bond that no one else has.

Well done for giving such an amazing thing to your little one and enjoy the bra shopping!!!! Wink

ALittleFaith · 19/04/2014 09:16

Boca I'd planned to stop at Christmas when she was 9 months old but turned to DH in tears and said I'm not ready! so we carried on. I'm emotional about stopping but I was ready. It is a special bond, a lovely connection. I don't think DH ever really understood that but I'm glad we had it.
