Possibly naughty question but...

It is my first wedding anniversary soon and dh and I are going out and leaving pfb with my sister. He will have exbottles throughout the evening and I will express and dump as I intend on having a drink or six Shock

My question is, how long after I have my last drink will my milk be alcohol free again?

Thanks xx

No need to pump and dump, your body metabolises the alcohol in the same way it does from your bloodstream. You can work out the level of alcohol in your bloodstream using an online calculator - it depends on your weight, how much you have, and time elapsed. I'll see if ican find one.

I found it very reassuring once I'd checked, personally. The levels that could be ingested are very low. Even without much time elapsing.

Agree, don't pump & dump! Waste of time and milk

Have a lovely evening!

If you're having a couple of glasses of wine with a meal, last drink about 10pm, you'd be fine doing a feed 3am onwards.

In general, if you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to breastfeed. Less than 2% of the alcohol consumed by the mother reaches her blood and milk. Alcohol peaks in mom’s blood and milk approximately 1/2-1 hour after drinking (but there is considerable variation from person to person, depending upon how much food was eaten in the same time period, mom’s body weight and percentage of body fat, etc.). Alcohol does not accumulate in breastmilk, but leaves the milk as it leaves the blood; so when your blood alcohol levels are back down, so are your milk alcohol levels.

Congrats and have a good evening. Just remember that PFB will magically know that you're extra tired/slightly hung over the next morning and probably wake up earlier! Smile

Even "sober enough to drive" is pretty cautious, the amount of alcohol that actually gets into your milk is miniscule unless you are actually falling down drunk. The greatest danger from drinking and breastfeeding is dropping the baby, not giving them alcohol poisoning.

This is very educational:

Enjoy your night out!
