Bottle-refusing just at nursery. Help!

DS 3.5 months went to nursery today for his first full day. He has been almost exclusively breastfed, with the occasional bottle of formula, which he has taken no problem. But, today he refused to eat (between 8 am and 4.30pm). I have given them 200ml of BM for tomorrow, but am worried. He is always harder to feed when distracted by things around him, but I did not think he would refuse to take any milk. What can we do?

Unfortunately for financial reasons I have had to go back to work, there is no option on this front. I was delighted not to have heard from the nursery all day but am now feeling dreadful. :(

Gosh - that sounds stressful for you. I haven't dealt with this directly, but DD was a bottle refuser altogether and my DH got her to drink out of a doidy cup at about 4.5 mo. So, they could try cup-feeding him? Or spooning milk into his mouth. Otherwise, he may just 'get it' in a few days, especially if he sees other babies drinking from a bottle at the nursery.

One other thing - were they trying formula or bm in the bottle? It may be that he'll only drink bm direct from the boob, and refuse it from another receptacle (relatively common, I think). In which case, he could have formula at nursery.

I had a bottle refuser (and dummy) she wouldnt drink from cup until about a year when we used a straw one.
But i think that was because we didnt try till several months old.
Was it same bottles as at home?

I had this with my DC1. She was older, 6mo, so we were able to get around it by feeding her baby rice etc mixed with milk whilst at nursery.

She held out a while but the nursery persisted and she did take the bottle in the end. She took big bf's morning and night to compensate in the meantime. But she did take the bottle in the end.

Given his age, I am sure he will give in soon. I'm sorry, it's really tough.

It was the same premade formula he has taken fron a bottle before (though he has also had EBM). The bottle was similar but bigger with a faster teat as previously have been using the newborn one. I did ask our HV about 'upgrading' bottles and teats the other day and she thought it should be ok. I can take in the mini newborn bottle tomorrow though. He seems very little to try ob a cup?

My DS is quite a bit older (10m) but struggled with eating when he first started nursery a month ago, despite being a great eater at home. The staff said theyfind feeding/eaeating is often what babies struggle with at nursery to start with. He is absolutely fine now.

Back on the micro mini newborn bottle with super slow teat, today he ate, both BM and formula. Am so relieved! The nursery commented he is a vaaairy slow eater though.

Thank you for all of your support. :)
