So, on DC 2 and very, very sore boobs. Same as DC1. Let down pain continues through whole feed.

I have a young toddler who requires a lot of time so I am breast feeding through the day ( wincing through it) and using formula at night. Midwife just told me it was the death knell for breast feeding as would kill my supply. Is she right? Will it mean my milk will dry up in the day?

Hospital don't often check properly for tongue tie and don't check lip tie at all. We are having a thing about this very issue at our MSLC.

Hi,
Thanks guys. A lactation specialist who I diagnosed first DC lives nearby so I can call her. Is it too late now? My supply is well below her needs already.

No, definitely not too late at a week old! Lots of people have problems with latch and milk transfer at the beginning.

After she had been on for two hours I still had milk...so I guess she isn't getting it properly. Might express instead.

Thanks Sillylass! I am pretty sure she is tongue tied but as with DS it's deep so will not be simple division but more of a major op which I won't put her through. Going to bf and top up, express in the eve and get through 6-8 weeks and then probably bottle feed as I did with DS as I won't have any help then.

And also, I have lip tie as does my son, and she does too! What a combination!!

Thanks for all of the responses on here. It's an emotional time!

Due to hormone levels your supply builds up more at night, hence night feeds are a crucial means of increasing your supply. If you want to mix feed, you would be better topping up with formula for one of the day feeds.
I was wincing through entire feeds at 1 week. Just about pain free at 8 weeks now.

You need to see a lactation consultant for proper advice and a plan. Is your baby gaining weight and pooing/weeing etc?

I bf easily with both. My DC fed for hours at a time sometimes and I always had milk, even immediately post feed as you make milk on demand, you are never empty. Similarly, taking a lot from a bottle tells you nothing about how much they are taking from the breast. Not to say you don't have a tie issue, sounds possible but I think you'd benefit from good support and accurate advice alongside assessment for tongue and lip ties.
