Hi mums im new to this site and hoped one or some of you could help me on this. My daughter is 6 months and was on Aptamil extra (all the goodie pre and pro biotics and fish oil swung it for me). I thought it may be a good idea to changer her to a follow on milk and give her additional omega supplements. Becoming more aware of the benefits of organic foods over the last few months I decided to put her on Hipp F.O. which resulted in severe constipation. I then bought some aptamil F.O...no change. Her tummy is hard, she is passing lots of pebbles and is so grumpy. She does have plenty juice and fruit/veg purees. I am sorely tempted to put her back on aptamil extra to correct it but understand the extra iron in follow on is beneficial. Thoughts anybody?
Thanks in advance.

Take her off the follow-on.

It's only on the market so that formula companies can get their brand names out there - infant formula's not allowed to be advertised.

It contains way too much iron for most babies - the formulation's different so they can advertise it. So the upshot is it often constipates.

Put her back on the infant formula - she'll be fine, I'm sure. It's totally fine for her to be on this till she's one and can have cows milk.

Go back to what you were using before. If she is otherwise eating good nutitious food then there is no need for the extra iron. Its only a marketing ploy anyway so the manufacturers can advertise.

The extra iron in FO isn't as beneficial as iron in the diet of a weaning baby as it is isn't in a readily digestible form. FO milks provide a vehicle for baby milk manufacturers to advertise their brand. If your dd is suffering go back to first milk, which is fine until at least a year, and just make sure you offer her a balanced diet.

Thanks for your speedy replies. I had a very brief conversation with HV about follow on, she thought it was a good idea. I'll be switching back asap.
