Has anyone any research or information I can send to my ds' ignorant pig of a consultant who advised me to wean and when I refused suggested I expressed and bottle fed my 21month old.

Incidentally, it isn't the posterior tongue tie that is causing us problems I don't think, but the thick and tight upper lip tie. My tooth imprints in the base of my nipple are from his top teeth.

The lactation consultants (that I sought out for their expertise in ties) that I have seen (two, one at 6 weeks and one at 10 months) both say he needs his ties releasing.

I have also sent a couple of pictures of his mouth to a private doctor who specialises and who says the ties must be cut, but he wants £400. We've been saving since 10 months.

I never mentioned this to the GP. I was expecting to see a paed for speech delay and a family history of Autism. I was surprised that it was instead this oral surgeon who we were booked into see and actually would never have requested a referral to him.

He sounds like a pig and an arse to me. I know those are not kind words, but, honestly, it sounds like his whole attitude to bfing is warped (albeit fairly standard...)

Nothing constructive to add, but so cross on your behalf.

(and so grateful that no medical professional knows that i'm still bfing my 3 year old!)

Ra, lip ties are controversial. There is no evidence that they are at the root of pain or bf problems. This does not mean they are not a problem, but there is no decent research evidence that they are because no one has done a proper trial. Some very highly qualified and experience experts in the field differ in their opinions on this.
