Milk on the flight! to mix or not to mix!

Hi

I'm flying out of Gatwick tomorrow with BA and I can't get anyone to tell me if I have to premix my formula milk or if they will let me take it on as the water in the bottles and then a container with the formula powder in it?

I have emailed BA, as cannot get an answer on the phone but no reply!

I want to take 3 bottles so without a cool bag (which I guess you can't take) I don't want to pre mix it.

Anyone know what I'm allowed to do?

Also am I allowed to take a bib, dummy and my dd's favorite teddy? I would guess not......

I've posted this on the Travel thread too, but not as many visit there!!!

think i would take the powder and then get water on board.

AvaLou · 12/08/2006 14:34

Can you not take the premixed cartons?

nicnack2 · 12/08/2006 14:37

Ava they are being so strict with fluids and you have to drink baby milk so they would probably make you open the carton

funkymonkey · 12/08/2006 14:38

Not sure if you can take to pre mixed as it says on the net you have to taste the milk in front of them....

Also didn't want to rely on the plane or airport lounge for pre boiled water if it is manic everywhere.....

I would take the powder, and buy Evian or similar in the shops. You're not travelling to the US, right? In which case you're certainly allowed to buy stuff in the shops, and possibly allowed to take fluids on?

I would do as sitting bull suggests. I would take some one-portion sachets of powder and powder in a tupperware.

that gives you more flexibility - if they look at the sachets and say yes, they're clearly untampered with, then you're away. But if they were really fussy they could make you mix all of them up and taste all of them - which you don;t want to do.

which is where the stuff in the tupperware comes in - you could either ask them if you tasting the powder would be ok. or, if not ask them if you could just mix one bottle and taste that infront of them - then you'll still be able to mix the othres on board.

I think that I would do as sittingbull suggests. I'm really keen to know how you get on as I am flying in 6weeks with dd who is currently mix fed so I may face the same problem. let me know how it goes when you get back.

according to the news today, no teddy bears- bib would be OK if baby was wearing it I guess? But otherwise nappies and milk for babies

Glad we're holidaying in this UK, can't imagine my sam without his trusty papers and pens- well, it wouldn't be worth the risk.

Deffo check Boots website- they did say they were selling most things air side

There is a Boots on the interactive map on the Gatwick web site, it doesn't say it's not open or anything- I would take water and powder, but if you can grab stuff from Boots too.

Put dummy in babies mouth and bib on before you check in

MarvellouslyMilitantPeachy · 12/08/2006 21:40

I would suspect you could buy a bear in duty free of course, but it's not the same is it?

littleducks · 12/08/2006 21:42

dummy may be allowed if you insist baby will cry otherwise and could you have baby wear the bib through security checks, as its important that you have nothing that isnt vital so that all possessions are visable in plastic bag your given. Not sure what to say about milk but thought it had to be mixed with hot water now due to bacteria etc.

Thanks so much for all your help!!!

Will let you know in two weeks how I get on!! Off to the airpost now!!
