Switching Formula for 6 month old ...

Hi ... am wondering if anyone has noticed whether changing formula from 0-6 mths to the 6 mths onwards formulas had any adverse effects on their little ones ?

DD turned 6 mths on Tues, same day as she had her jabs, and same day as I changed her formula .... since then for the last two nights she has not slept well and wakes crying every few hours , which she has not done for months now ... Is this a coincidence ?

No reason to change formula at 6 mths - see threads on mumsnet passim for why this is just a marketing ploy which you need not fall for

The main problem with follow-on is that in some babies, it causes constipation (because of the extra iron in it).

Regular formula is just fine.

Tks Tiktok ... I am using Wyeth ...so therefore the S26 is still OK for now ?

Dunno - we don't have that in the UK, AFAIK. But regular infant formula is suitable for all ages.

I just changed ds formula to SMA white for hungrier babies. It seems to have made him really grumpy....

SMA White is still regular infant formula - not follow on. It's marketed for 'hungrier babies' as the casein in it takes longer to break down, so it stays in the tummy for longer. The calorie content is about the same.

It's all about marketing, not nutrition......

Grommit - don't want to worry you but SMA White is for "hungrier babies" because it contains a load of stuff they can't digest which therefore sits in their tummies, supposedly stopping them from being hungry. Not really a surprise that he's grumpy then...

Grommit
I gave my dd SMA White once and we had a big eczema break out all over her body. I think she must have been intolerant to some of the ingredients.

I have reverted back to the infant formula which states for 0-6 mths ... The 6mth-12 mth seems much thicker and smells of vanilla milkshake !

TIKTOK ... what does AFAIK mean ??!!!

As far as I know

Cords - are you in Australia, then? Does the formula really say 0-6 mths? Here, it is not labelled thus.

AFAIK, that is

cords · 13/03/2004 00:50

I am in HK ... and yes, they are labelled, 0-6 , 6-12, then 1-2 ect ect ... odd !
