someone mentioned about 10 days ago that their doc prescibed lansinoh on the NHS but my doc and Boots say its not on their list - does anyone know if it comes under another name?

What about Purelan?

Issy - a tube is quite big??? Can't someone fix your latch? Better to fix it than to keep buying the cream - well done for BF on what are probably quite painful nipples

hi,
it was me who mentioned that lansinoh is available on prescription....i'm a midwife and i know for a fact that it has recently been approved for prescription (i got it myself after a little battle with gp!)

it is NOT on their lists yet as they maybe don't get updated that often...my gp had to handwrite the prescription and i took it to loyds pharmacy....they had it in stock.

the second time i took my prescription to sainsburys pharmacy and they had to order it in....but again no problem with lansinoh.
it doen't go under another name and purelan is not as pure as lansinoh!

both times that i got lansinoh on prescription though my gp didn't know what i was talking about but they know i'm a midwife so they believed me!

you could direct your gp to the website www.lansinoh.co.uk ! somewhere on there it states that it has been approved for prescription!

i agree with the earlier posts that you should maybe have someone check your latch if you are going through tubes at a rate of knots but i'm also using it a lot and i know my babies latch is fine....

it makes me mad, that aids for breastfeeding like lansionoh are difficult to get on prescription, whereas medication for a bottlefed baby that has contracted gastroenteritis through unclean bottles is no problem....

stick to your guns and demand to get the prescription!! you should NOT have to pay to get lansinoh!!!

good luck!

thanks for all your messages. i am permanently BF or trying to placate a whiney 2 year old so this is my first time on mumsnet in ages! saw a BF counsellor who fixed my latching so things are better but DS still has a lot to learn so may go back for another session.
thanks for the prescription advice - will talk to my gp.

A frined of mine told me that her dh has cracked nipples caused by friction against his shirt when playing sport. She has given him some of her purelan.

But it occured to me that if he had gone to the Dr's for some cream for this skin condition the Dr would have prescribed him something I'm sure, no question so why the reluctance for breastfeeding mums? Makes you think.
