Breast feeding question

Hi, wasn't sure of the best place to post this so hope some people here can help me.

My dd is 4 months old and I have cut down breast feeding gradually over the last month. It has worked out great and for the last week or so she has only been having her night feed from the breast but has now slept through for 2 nights and my boob was hurting so much this morning after 2 nights off feeding and I leaked all over the bed which hasn't happened for ages so I gave her a quick feed to ease the pressure. I want to stop fully now but how do I do it without the pain? Obviously if I keep feeding her to ease it up I'm going to keep producing more. Help! x

Hi,

Not an expert on bf but can you express and freeze the extra? Though that may also mean you keep producing more?

I would think your supply will adjust accordingly soon but in the meantime can you ask a hv or bf support group/line for advice on how to manage the discomfort?

Good luck x

There is a breast and bottle feeding section where you will get excellent advice. If you report your OP you can get this moved there Smile

I believe the advice is to drop one feed at a time every week or so. You could hand express a little to ease the discomfort but don't express more as you'll keep producing however much is removed.

Good luck Smile

Sorry didn't quite take in you're down to one. Hand express, cold cabbage in bra (really!), sure others will have more advice.

Just hand express, only enough to sort out the pressure/discomfort. If you've decided to stop completely, and she is happy with that, then I'd avoid giving her the occasional feed as it will just confuse your body and risk unsettling her.

Apparently sage and peppermint tea decrease your supply as well.

I was never great at expressing and found that after a while I'd give him a feed every couple of days til he started refusing completely and my boobs were fine with that

Mummyjetsetter · 03/02/2014 22:18

Don't know how that happened! Trying to move to breastfeeding section! x

Thank you for advice everyone. God by other boob is aching now! Not very much comes out when hand expressing but I'll give it a go. She is quite happy to have a little snack of breast milk. My ds was the same went easily between the 2 but I stopped before 2 months with him so supply and demand wasn't established so I dried up really quickly. Think I'll try cabbage and the teas too. x
