For the first time ever I feel like giving up bf...

Because dd2 won't take a bottle Hmm

I left her with her dad today 10am-5.30pm and she only took one bottle at 3pm. She took almost 5oz but it was only because the Hoover was on Shock

We have tried various bottles. Today she took a nuk with a latex teat.

Please does anyone have advice? Dd2 is 13 weeks. Dd1 is 3.

I had planned on feeding until she self weaned as this is what I did with dd1. But I am struggling - dd feeds very frequently, often hourly when at home. I could cope with this if I knew I could get some time out occasionally.

Any advice? Dh says I should go out again tomorrow as I have enough expressed milk?

I would go out again tmrw if your DH is up for it and you have expressed milk ready. It's just a matter of keep trailing it; she took some today so that's good and doesn't matter if it's through distraction,

GL :)

Do you think she might be reverse cycling kellymom.com/bf/normal/reverse-cycling/
Or the baby 5:2 diet as I like to think of it.

Ah, link fail. Try googling kellymom (the source of all my bf knowledge, I can even forgive the 'mom' part) & reverse cycling.

My DS2 was the same, he fed and fed until he was sick and fed and fed some more. He would not take a bottle-I tried every make going. Eventually after a hardcore weekend of trying he took it. As I was trying formula in the bottle not expressed milk, I think what was happening was he was simply full after and ounce or 2. I was thinking he was refusing the bottle as he breast fed for hours but only drank an ounce before fussing. I had to take his lead with it. It was a hard slog. Good luck.

So do you think it would be better for us to try again tomorrow to keep the momentum going?

And the reverse cycling makes sense - does that mean I don't have to worry too much if I'm only away occasionally? Or does that mean I should give up trying to have time away?

I think it means you don't have to worry to much. My friends DS was in childcare 2 days a week from 10wks (single mum, self employed, had to keep business ticking over or there wouldn't of been a business to go back to). He hardly ate at all for the childminder, just the odd oz or two but would fill up on the other days/nights. He's now about 7months & has been a lovely chubby little thing all along. I'd keep offering a bottle but not stress too much if they're only taking enough to take the edge of their hunger until you return.

Thanks for the messages - I wanted to update as it's positive news!

Dd has taken a bottle for the second night in a row. She prefers the milk to be very warm not just luke warm and she likes the mam bottles as the teat doesn't seem to fill her mouth so much.

We will keep it going every night even a couple of oz of expressed milk. I feel so much more hopeful now that we will keep bf until she self weans so long as this continues! Grin
