6 weeks old -- how much formula is too much??

My DD is 6 weeks old this week and is taking more and more formula weekly, quite alarming really. She's taking 7oz of houngry baby milk every 4 hrs now!!! She's not being sicky so I presume I'm not overfeeding and she's putting on weight at a normal rate but I just can't believe how much milk she's taking. My friend's 6 month old doesn't take this much milk and never did before she started solids.

Many babies experience a growth spurt around 6-8 weeks.

We did on demand formula feeding w/DD1, and noticed at times she did seem to be taking a LOT, but other weeks not as much.

If she is not being sick, constipated, having weight issues, or seem out of sorts, I'd be inclined to just go w/it.

She may level off in a week or two.

Some babies do seem to have a bigger appetite, too.

I agree. DS went through a growth spurt at 6 weeks so we adjusted his bottle sizes - then a few weeks later he stopped drinking the last 2/3 ozs, took a while to catch up again. Go with the flow! Not sure about hungry baby milk - are ther more calories in it? Maybe just check with HV/or someone on here if it's necessary.

Also some babies are sucky rather than hungry, especially as FF takes less suck than BF. We used a dummy with DS until 3 months when he found his thumb.

What is her weight? I'll be able to work out how much she should be on.

Formula feeding can be demand feeding just as breast feeding can.

I'm a firm believer in letting the baby tell you how much she wants to eat or drink.

The body doesn't lie, we've just learned not to listen to it.

If she is content then i would go with the flow, you may find in a week or so that her demand has dropped off a bit.
