Just been told she has reflux, not bad enough for meds as she has no weight loss, told we can try aptamil anti reflux so wonder if anyone had any experience with if?

We didn't use anti reflux but did use Aptamil stage 2 comfort (DD2 is lactose intolerant).

DS had silent reflux but only realised later (we thought it was colic). He gated the bouncy chair as the angle was too flat for him. We were given a take along swing and it was a life saver, he really liked the motion.

Gaviscon works too. Take about 15-20 mins before feeds. There's a kiddy version at pharmacy.

How bad is the vomiting? You might have to argue for meds.

I realise she's not lost weight but that could be the sterling effort you are making. Our dd only stopped vomiting at a year (sorry don't want to scare you, most stop earlier) so, over time meds could be helpful.

Pm me if wish. Many GPS say it's laundry issue and ignore you. IMO it's not that simple.

How can I pm you minnie? The vomiting is at worse on some days than others. She vomited 3 times during feed this morning, her apetite is now low and she suffers during all feeds after an oz or 2, and she is sleeping more

Via the inbox. Happy to talk here too just sometimes people prefer not to.

I learnt a lot off people on here at the start of our reflux. It's why I come back.

Our dd vomited almost immediately after feeds. We tried waiting before changing angle, or moving but she just waited before vomiting. If it wasn't down long it came back as it went down. If we were lucky it was a bit longer it looked curdled, presume started digestion...

You know why it happens? Sorry. Don't mean to sound silly but we had no idea at first. Unsure where you are. Have you tried mattress wedges? Are you bf or bottle? We were bf and I barely stood up for a while through being desperate to keep some down her. There's a kiddie version of gaviscon you could try. I'd recommend about 15to 20 mins before minimum.

Big thing for me/us was how encompassing it became. It's flipping hard keeping spirits up, not to mention washing, hoping every feed it stops, explaining why it's happening. Apologising to those she pukes on. Sometimes I just cried.

Of course other times it's ok. We didn't find gps helpful. However once I stated my case they were happy to give us ranitidine - like gaviscon an acid settler. And domperidone - a sickness combatter, helping keep good actually down. Both were three times a day via syringe before feeds. Amounts are given via weight, so go up as they grow. Not by much, but enough. Were game changers for us but then you get more comments off people/gps about it being 'a laundry issue' or pointless meds. Can be quite irritating and hard.

Sending hugs xxx

My ds has horrendous silent reflux and no weight loss but a great deal of discomfort. Were initially given gaviscon which did nothing but insisted it wasn't good enough and ended up videoing a feed to show the gp as he was in so much pain. We were prescribed ranitidine which didn't work instantly but after 2 weeks there was a massive difference. If you're gp won't do anything push for a referral to a pediatrician.

Thanks everyone, thanks minnie can't work out how to do the pm thing!! Silly mum I am!
It's really tough cos it's come on Slowly maybe but the last week it's so bad, she hardly eating and sleeping so much more. Drs wasn't worried though.... As she is gaining weight and seems ok In herself but feeding times are awful, screwing vomiting, takes forever and all she takes is 2oz. She wakes up tired it seems or shortly after she starts to yawn..... It's odd as she never slept this much before, I worry she is tired from crying and feeding in discomfort which Breaks my heart

Yeah the pain is evident isn't it? Don't worry I get it. I'll keep checking back here. Dunno if I'm much practical help, but I do think I can support the emotional. Drove me bats for a year.

Try gaviscon. Might work. I didn't use it more than once. But others it works great for. Thing is you won't know if what she has is simple, average or serious as if like us you hadn't seen it before what do you compare it too? You are the expert on your baby. Not gp. Trust your instinct. Trust what you see/experience. It's very tiring. I'm sorry. Hugs.

Are you ok? DP/dh? Give it a week. Go back? In our case it was sheer diligence of effort that kept weight up at first. See how goes. One feed at a time x
