Poorly nipples :-(

Every time he feeds it feels as though my 12 week old DS is tearing them off Sad (Probably a slight over reaction)
We've had no problems up to now. All of a sudden it's started to really hurt - as he latches on I feel like I need to pull him straight off but I can't because that hurts too Sad I really don't want to stop feeding him but I'm frightened of the next feed because of how much it hurts.
I'm dreading tonight...he's been waking to feed every 2 hours Sad
I'm putting Lanisoh on...
Not sure what else to say really but...ouch!

What's the pain like? Thrush can cause soreness but it's a particular sort of pain - your nipples tend to be pink as well.

If you suspect it's positioning best to get someone to take a look like a bf counsellor. In the meantime I found the Dr Jack Newman videos really useful.

Thankyou for your reply :)
They have gone pink - could that be the only symptom? DS hasn't got anything on his tongue?
It feels as if he's biting really hard, if that makes sense. What kind of pain is thrush pain?

Poor you. No, you don't need to see anything in their mouth. I wouldn't describe it as biting more shooting but hey, I'm no doctor!

You can get canesten that's good for nursing from the pharmacist without prescription. I also found wiping my nipples with white vinegar (yes, really) after each feed effective at stopping it if I caught it early enough.

Yeah I'm not very good at describing it. It's like a sharp shooting burning. I rang shrop doc last night - he hadn't got a clue! He said, 'oh I doubt it's thrush, you normally get that vaginally first!' And said if I thought I was getting mastitis to ring back Confused I know it isn't that because I've had mastitis before. Ah well.
Thanks again.
