Windy 3 day old. Will it get better when milk comes in?

Ds2 has been windy pretty much as soon as he recovered from being born. I know he's swallowing air with his feeds.

I'm hoping things will change when my milk comes in. I can't see it being a good idea to start with infacol just yet.

Its awful listening to his cries and sometimes its difficult to feed him. I figure its early days & things will change and we've just got to make an effort with the winding.

Anyone got any advice please? Ds1 is 3 and I feel a bit uncertain as ds2 is not doing exactly the same things!

Congratulations Smile

I would get someone to check the latch, positioning and check for tongue tie.

A good latch should help prevent air being swallowed and positioning will help. Tongue tie can effect the latch so it's really worth getting it checked out.

Thanks for reply. Midwife checked tongue tie & latch & said all fine.

He does slip down to suckle at the end of a feed (= painful) but the air sucking is more at the start.

Milk is in now so going to see if any improvement to wind & latch when poor sore beleaguered boobs settle down Hmm

Congratulations too! He is maybe just hungry. As you say, v early days. Now your milk has come in he will probably guzzle 24-7. All the best! X

Ps cabbage leaves on boobs can be v soothing - white ones, not green ones (mistake I made first time!)

It's such early days I'm sure it will get better but if it continues do get it rechecked as many times as you need to. Breastfeeding advice really varies and sometimes you need to seek out the support.

DS would slip down and nipple feed with the TT. I would have to make a special effort to hold him correctly or it was really painful. Midwives were lovely but gave poor advice unfortunately.
