How would you handle your three year old ds asking for breastmilk, when he was weaned at 13 months.

I think he is a little jealous of my dt's who are still being breast fed.
I have so far talked about when I used to breast feed him, and shown him photos. I have given him some chocolate milk to drink when I feed the twins (he says it tastes like choc milk). I have let him have a taste, but he can't really suckle properly.
My gut feeling is to not keep letting him. He seems to be asking more now. What do you any of you suggest

if you don't want him to start again or just don't feel comfortable allowing hjim to keep trying then you just have to go with the " you've had a little try and thats all now" your a big boy who can use a cup"

and then make him feel big and clever that he's not a baby anymore and hes a big boy

sorry I have no better advice, when I bf dd2, dd1 was 5 and she wanted to try it so I got a glass and she said she wanted to try it like the baby does........well I couldn't cope with it and i just said, no honey your a big girl and I expressed a little into the glass, she tried it and promounced it disgusting, so i didn't have any problem after that lol

Why don't you say "Oh- do you wish you were still a little baby sometimes? I do too sometimes. But I am a big mummy now and you are my gorgeous little boy and I love us both like that too. You can't have breastmilk but you can have a big, big, big hug and give me one back... Tsk- those silly little babies don't even know how to give big hugs yet, do they?" Or words to that effect.

He seems to hate it when I say "you're a big boy now", he says "no I am a baby", he obviously thinks that there are advantages to being younger, perhaps it's becasue he wants to be like the twins and sometimes feels left out?
I will keep trying, as stated previously I don't want him to get into this habit of asking all the time. A little bit of me feels guilty as I weaned him at 13 months when I was pregnant, and the twins are 21 months now. I don't want to feel as if I have to stop feeding them because it is upsetting him either

I'd keep letting him. What's the harm?

My DS1 was weaned at 18 months (for silly reasons, I realise, retrospectively). I had DS2 at 3 years, and DS1 tries to feed once in a while. He's forgotten how to suckle, so he really does it more as a joke.

He's just trying to do the same thing his brother does, and testing the limits. I don't see any point to stopping him.

I suspect he's asking more because he's realised it unnerves you.

Oh ok- that won't work if they are older- thought they were wee babies. I think you're right that he could well be jealous of the closeness. They are not much younger than him at all so it's not easy to give him a reason why they can feed but not him, i guess. Hard one.

I think the fact that I did go down the line of letting him try, but he can't really do it, so it was quite painful with him trying to suck put me off!
Also I only have two breasts , and it's a bit of a scrummage with the twins at the best of times.
i do feel bad for him though

I'd keep letting him. If you remain unfazed by it, act like it's routine and let him know he can if he wants then he's resonably likely to get over it quite quickly, particularly if he can't suckle properly. If he sees it as something you're happy to do for the twins but don't want to do for him then it'll have more of an allure IMO.

leahE you might be right, but I sort of followed this policy for a while and the request have increased. I think he really likes the taste, as well as having emotional issues about it.
The fact that he does it after one of the dts has come off, means that although he can't suckle he still gets loads of milk.
Thanks for replying every one, I do feel really conflicted about this.
