nipple blanching

Does anyone know if nipple blanching does any lasting damage? It's not painful but it's definitely there, nipples going very white at the ends then purple as the blood flows back. I know it's usually caused by bad latch I'm hopefully gonna get that sorted when I see lactation consultant in a week's time just worried my nipples might die and fall off or something horrendous!

Can also be Raynauds in your nips - do you have Raynauds in your hands?

I don't know if it can do lasting damage, tbh. Mine didn't though.

I found this kellymom article about nipple blanching and vasospasm very informative, though too late to help me when I had painful blanching (prob due to a mixture of DD having a mild tongue tie and my oversupply issue).

I'm not a medical professional so can't know for certain but vasospasms are just constriction of the blood vessels so as long as the blood supply returns after a few minutes it should be fine.

I had this problem after every feed despite the latch being good, no pain during feeding and normal shaped nipples afterwards. We are now at 13 weeks old and suddenly realised the other day that it had not happened in a while. Looking back I think it stopped at about 10 weeks. Whilst it was happening I found it helped to immediately cover my nipples up after a feed to keep them warm and to lightly squeeze the end of my nipple until it turned pink again.

Hope that helps.
