Tommee Tippee bottles

Our DS is a week old and we've had to switch to bottles because breastfeeding wasn't working out for us. We bought a Tommee Tippee bottle and steriliser kit but DS seems to really struggle with the shape of the bottles ( they're the ones that are meant to be more breast-shaped.) However, in order to avoid getting air trapped in the teat, we have to feed him in a horizontal position and he gets hiccups.

We are looking to buy some more conventional shaped bottles - but my question is this: is it ok to use the Tommee Tippee steriliser to sterilise bottles from another manufacturer?

So long as the bottles and other bus fit in the steriliser then yes, you can use it. If it is a microwave steriliser use the manufacturer instructions for the bottles NOT the steriliser as the plastics may be different and need longer/shorter amount of time.
The TT bottles you got, are they the 'closer to nature' ones? If so they should have a little air valve on the teat that stops air build up. Also if you hold your lo quite upright but allow his head to lean back a bit you should find he gets enough milk in the teat and doesn't get so gassy.
Hope you find something he gets on with.

what do you mean by air getting stuck in the teat ? do they have the little valve on ? x

They do have a little value I think, but i really wasn't sure what the purpose of it was. So does that mean it doesn't matter if there's a little air in there?

If you're looking for recommendations we got some innosense bottles from Mothercare (they're Mothercare's own brand) and they've been really good- the teat is at the bottom of the "boob" so hardly ant air gets trapped. We're using an avent sterilizer with them- I thing it's ok as long as everything fits in ok. -They also have the little valves and have slow teat flow so it doesn't all just pour in and give the baby wind

I had the same problem with both my dds. Dd1 refused those bottles but took the boots own brand ones no problem (they are fab for cheap bottles) however the avent ones went down the best. They are fantastic and well worth the money.

I now have dd2 and she won't take the tommee tippie bottles either. They are really awkward. I have the tommee tippie steriliser and I can fit 6 avent, boots or mother care own brand bottles in no problem.

Buy a couple of different bottles at a time and see what one he likes the best Smile

Thanks, that's really helpful. I think we may pop to Mothercare tomorrow and see what the different options are. I've heard good things about Avent bottles...

Recommend the avent natural bottles and teats. I have mix fed with them no problem.

when u put the bottles together always make sure you pinch the valve so they are open. when they have been used a while they dont need this but when fairly new the teats can collapse etc if shut. x
