What's the issue with not letting the water cool down?!

Hi, DS 16wks and formerly ebf, now doing the odd FF. DD was mix fed and from memory we boiled water, added to bottle then powder and cooled in a jug. A much quicker way when demand feeding as 30mins crying isn't fun for anyone. My research says it's the release of something in the plastic when contacted with boiling water that's the issue. I use avent bottles and teats which are BPA free.

Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't be doing this as all bacteria is killed on contact? Is it the plastic..?

Thanks

the water needs to be over 70degrees to kill bacteria in the powder. They say to wait no more than 30 minutes so you could make them up sooner than that. The hotter the water is the more it makes the formula clog up in the scoop though.

Has to be over 70 degrees to kill the bacteria that may be present in the formula.

At 100 degrees/just boiled it scalds the formula, can reduce the nutrients in it, and clumps it up.

You mean you make the feeds up with boiling water?

I didn't do this. Are people saying there are bugs in the powder? I can't believe it is that big a deal?

Kind of reminds me of my steriliser instructions which said I had to use the sterilised bottle within 30 minutes. Which of course is impossible when you are out and about.

Formula not sterile - bacteria may be present in formula from the manufacturing process - boiled water kills any bacteria.

oohdaddy - formula is not sterile, so yes may well contain bugs.
