Just stopped breastfeeding - advice needed

Have stopped breastfeeding my nearly 6 month old (2 weeks ago) and am worried about how much formula he is having. He probably has 5 or 6 bottles in 24 hours, each one of these averaging at about 4 oz. Sometimes he only has 2oz, sometimes he has 7oz. He has never really been a very hungry baby (despite being big - 10lbs 5 at birth) and hasn't gained weight very quickly. He wakes up at least once in the night and has another 4oz or so but then doesn't have anything in the morning until at least 10am. I offer him water but he's not interested. God how I wish I hadn't stopped breastfeeding, this is so stressful! Do I start weaning at 6 months if he's not interested in milk? Does it matter he is having so much less than it says on the box? Help please!

You can start to bf again if you want to, anchovies.

Hiya
I wouldnt worry too much about comparing things to the tin. 5 or 6 bottles is about right. What size teats are you using? You can start offering food from 6 months, keeping it simple and adding milk to his food.

Good luck with restarting the breastfeeding

Hi am using closer to nature bottles (all he will take) and fast flow teats. Takes him ages though. When I was breastfeeding he used to be done in less than 10 minutes but a bottles takes him anywhere upto 30 minutes.

anchovies - just do it :0

Put ds to the breast often, not by forcing or fighting, but just as part of a cuddle, or when you think he might accept being offered it....sometimes when the baby is a bit sleepy is a good time.

You can speed up the return of any milk supply loss by expressing, but after 6 months of full bf (if it was this) it will take more than 2 weeks to make the supply disappear, and very little time for it to bounce back (!) if you have a co-operative baby and feed/offer to feed often, day and night.
