Blister that just won't heal

I've had a milk blister for ages, I'm talking months. Since October I've had pain that side after feeding, usually not bad, just uncomfortable. On a few occasions when the skin has come away it's been really painful like tonight. It's so painful I can't sleep & have taken paracetamol. It feels like the nerve endings are exposed.

How do I get this to heal once & for all? I've really had enough of it now.

Any advice anyone?

The paracetamol didn't even touch it last night so took ibruprofen too & was awake with the pain until 2.30am. I rubbed some expressed milk on it & I ended up having to sleep with my boob out as anything touching was just making it worse. Sorry if that's way too much information.

I had a blister on one side for ages and thought I'd have to give up bfeeding as it was so painful. But then I went away for a week to visit family and so was feeding DD sitting in different chairs and slightly different positions. Bizarrely this seemed to be enough to give the blister time to heal. DD had obviously been putting pressure on it every time she fed. So could you try different positions, or at least adjust the current position you usea llittle bit?

Thanks for the suggestion, I've given it a go a couple of times today & it doesn't feel like he's catching it quite so much. Don't think his new trick of wrestling with my boob while feeding was particularly helpful either. Fingers crossed!

If you're not finding it's getting a chance to heal maybe use a shield for a few days?

Are you very sure it's a milk blister? If so, this page gives you a variety of options.

I had some trauma to my nipple caused by bad latch in the early days, it didn't seem to be healing months later and didn't heal until I got treatment for thrush, then it healed very quickly. If you have an open wound on your nipple you are very susceptible to it so that might be something worth considering.

Thanks for the replies.

Definitely sure it's a milk blister - it's been white & bulged with a blocked duct on & off for ages. I had mastitis on that side just in time for Christmas & the doctor thought it was more than likely due to my little 'friend'.

We were treated for thrush back in October while we were on holiday as I started getting shooting pains then after feeding. I got myself checked here by the gp as after a week it wasn't getting better & she thought it was inflamed ducts. I'll give it a couple of days & then go back.

I used Jelonet (you can buy it on Amazon) and found it brilliant for healing nipples. Worth a try.
