My 9mo is still content to feed before breakfast and at bedtime but is a right pain in the afternoon - she wriggles and struggles and gets distracted so won't do it for more than 5 mins max. Should I drop this feed? I have never given formula and don't want to start now as that seems like more hassle plus unnecessary expense but I don't feel I am achieving much during this feed and it just gets us both frustrated. She is above 60th percentile so a healthy weight. Could I give cows milk in a beaker? I know they can't only have cows milk as a drink but could it supplement 2 breast feeds? Grateful for any other experiences!

i suspect at 9m she is probably weaned sufficiently to not be needing much more in the way of breastfeeds i don't think you need to give formula and i think cows milk is only recommended for 12m+. my ds was same around same age, pleased he liked cheese and yogurt as i felt comforted that he was getting in calcium.

Cows milk shouldn't be the main drink for under 1s but I don't see the problem with offering it as 1 drink in the day, with 2 breastfeeds as well. Or you could just offer water if she is eating well. You may also find that she comes back to wanting an afternoon feed.

Could it be that the 5 minutes is all she needs, my LO has a really quick feed, several times a day.

Dd did this to me at 8 months. Except I got my knickers in such a twist about it, that I went out and spent £80 on a pump Blush. In hindsight, I should have just dropped the feed and shoved a babybel at her Hmm

I wouldn't give cows milk yet. I would drop the feed but have yog/ babybell whatever and drinks of water on standby as it may be she wants the milk in a few days or weeks time after a growth spurt.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. She can get all she needs from those feeds and if she wanted more she'd take it. An efficient feeder can get plenty of milk in five minutes too. Smile
